Ever

I can't believe that for one second I was actually starting to think that me and Damen had something. Who was I kidding? A boy with his looks brings nothing good. The way that girl jumped on him. I know they have got to be more than just friends and when he looked up at me after they stood up, did he know I was jealous?

I don't even know what's going on with me anymore. I walk into my 2nd class of the day, which is A.P. History and I'm so lost in thought that I don't even notice until she speaks that I just sat next to the same girl that pounced Damen. Oh, great.

"Hello, I'm Allyson. What's your name?" she says with a smile that I would very much like to slap off her face.

"I'm Ever," I say.

"Oh, what a pretty name. So, you know Damen?" she asks.

"Nope, just a stranger I ran into this morning," I answer.

"Are you sure? Because from the looks of it, it seems like much more," she replies.

Why is she interrogating me like this?

"Yeah, positive," I say.

"Liar. Don't think I haven't noticed the way he looks at you," she says.

What the fudge? Who does she think she is? Some psycho, man. She's about to tell me something else when Ms. Malik tells her to shut her mouth. I turn to look at her and she's giving me the most evil look I've ever seen.

She really has lost her mind. Then she mouths the words, "I'm watching you." Oh, creepy. Thanks a lot, Damen. I really wanted this.

School just ended and I'm so happy it's finally over. Now, I get to go home and be free. I'm walking out the door when I suddenly feel someone grab me from the arm and pull me back in. I turn around ready to punch whoever it is, but then I see it's Damen.

"Hey, I'm sorry about this morning. I didn't mean for that to happen. That girl back there? She's Allyson, she used to be my best friend back in my other high school, before I moved here. She was just a little excited to see me after all this time, but we're just friends. I mean it, I feel nothing like that for her."

"Oh, really?" I ask.

"Yeah, I'm being serious here. I've never in my entire life have felt any romantic feelings towards her. I swear, I swear on my life," he says.

Something tells me I could trust him, so I do.

"Oh, well, okay then," I reply.

"You heading home?" he asks.

"Uh, yeah," I answer.

"Can I walk you to your house? It's the only thing I can think of to make up for earlier," he says.

I respond with, "Oh, you don't really have to make that up. It was nothing, really."

He looks at me with this intense look in his eyes as he says, "But I want to."

"Oh, well okay," is all I can say. As he's looking at me with those gorgeous gray eyes, all the blood rises to my cheeks, I feel my heart beating faster and my stomach fluttering. I can't even think straight. Then I remember, he doesn't even know where I live, so he's waiting for me to tell him which way.

I break the moment and start walking as I say, "It's this way."

"So, you usually walk home by yourself?" he asks as we're walking.
