Explain To Me

I looked at him with a confused face. Everybody knows you can't explain colors to someone. "What do you mean? Why?"

He laughed. "Because I can't see color. I can only see black and white." He sat up and crossed his legs putting his hands in his lap.

"When did that happen?"

"Unimportant."

"Okay... I'll try." I sat up copying the position he was in. I was staring into his eyes not believing they couldn't see color. Saud has amethyst eyes. Which I guess goes with the whole not being able to see color. "What color do you want me to explain?"

He started to look around like he lost something. Then he looked at me.

"Blue." He said looking down at his fingers counting. "Like the sky, birds, your eye."

He looked up at me with a smirk. I hit his shoulder annoyed that he would even bring that up. He fell exaggerating the hit, laying on his back.

"You don't have to hide your beautiful eye, Anne."

"Says the person with gorgeous purple eyes."

"But mine are broken. I don't even know what purple looks like."

He reached over and picked a flower off the tree and Examined it. I sat there watching him pick the peddles of the flower one by one.

"Did you ever know someone named Tori?" He asked still messing with the flower in his hand.

"Not that I know of, why?"

He dropped the peddle-less flower while shaking his head. "Never mind." He said reaching for a branch to climb down the tree.

"Where are you going?" I said looking down from the tree.

"I'm going back up to the house."

"Well, wait for me." I said, quickly climbing down the tree to catch up with him.

I ran my hand against the tree slightly feeling pain. I look at my hand finding a splinter in my wrist. I just ignored it and went up to him.

I walked by his side quietly, listening to the leaves crunch beneath us.

"Thank you for telling me all of that." I said looking down at the ground.

He nodded and scratched the back of his neck. "You know, you never said what was going on with you."

"Well, what do you want to know?" I said picking up a small stone and putting it in my pocket.

"You said that something weird happened to you. What was that all about?"

"I think I saw the same girl you saw. When you were in the hospital."

He stopped walking.

"What did she say." His serious voice startled me.

"What do you mea-?"

"Anne! What did she say!"

"She said someone was going to die." I said softly.

"And you didn't think to tell me that when we were talking about her?"

"I don't know, I guess I was too intrigued by what you were saying that I forgot."

He paced around thinking about something. I've never seen Saud this worried and stressed. He walked over to me and grabbed both of my shoulders firmly.

"Who were you thinking about before she came up to you."

"I don't kno-."

"Think!"

"I guess I was thinking about you, your group of friends, and my mom. That's all I can remember before that."

He slowly took his hands off my shoulders.

"No, no, no, no. We all played." He said under his breath while covering his face with his hands.

"What?"

"Me and all those guys played the game. The only person that hasn't played is your..."

He paused and moved his hands to look at me. He grabbed my arm quickly and ran through the trails until we got to the house. When we got inside he let go of my arm.

"Do you mind telling me what's going on?" I said confused.

"Quick get your phone, it might not be too late." He said blowing over my question.

I rolled my eyes and went into the kitchen to grab my backpack. I took my phone out and found five missed calls from a number I didn't know. I called the number to see if anyone would pick it up. I turned to Saud while the phone rang.

"Hello is this Joann Barlowe?" A kind voice asked me.

"Yes, this is her." I said anxiously.

"Well, about three hours ago your mom collapsed with a severe heart attack. She's currently in the ICU." I put my hand on my mouth in shock. I felt tears well up in my eyes. But there was no way I was going to cry in front of Saud. "Thankfully she called an ambulance before she couldn't. The bad news is that her heart is still weak from the attack."

"Can I see her?" I said in a soft scratchy voice trying to hold back my tears.

"Sorry, we're not accepting visits right now until her heart is stronger and she's healthier overall. Do you have any other questions?"

I had a lot of questions but it felt like all the weight of life was on my shoulders. I couldn't speak.

"No." I said taking my hand off my mouth and falling on my knees not being able to stand anymore.

"Your mom is currently in the Serenity Hospital. We'll call you when visits are open."

She hung up and I set my phone on the ground. And put my knees up to my head trying not to cry. Saud walked up and sat down next to me.

"Do you want to go on the couch?" He whispered to me.

I nodded slowly. And he carefully picked me up taking me to the couch. When we got to the couch he set me down and covered me with a blanket. He was about to walk away when I stopped him.

"Can you sit with me? I want to talk about something." He turned around and nodded. I scooted down so he could sit. When he sat down I laid my head on his lap. He started to play with my hair pushing it back behind my ear.

"Do you still want to know what the color blue looks like?" He laughed under his breath.

"Yes."

"Well, they say that blue is a calming color. Imagine yourself peacefully laying on your back in water. For once in your life, you feel weightless with nothing to worry about. You look up and the deepest blue you've seen surrounds the sky. You close your eyes and hear seagulls calling from above. And the water moving all around you. I guess what I'm trying to say is that blue looks peaceful."
