Saiki POV ✨

'Whatever, I needn't worry about her. It's not like I'm going to interact with that transfer student ever again, right?'

–Is what Saiki had originally thought, until the next day the teacher decided to changed the seating plan. Saiki had assumed he would be sitting next to Teruhashi, since she always seems to get her way, but he was instead seated by someone else:

Mr Iguchi - "Saiki, you'll now be sitting next to L/N at the back desks over there."

Saiki - 'Good grief, I spoke too soon about her not bothering me.'

Saiki collected his bag and went over to his newly allocated desk. He sat next to Y/N and avoided eye contact in hopes of deterring her from him. Her thoughts, however, displayed different motives.

Y/N - 'Perhaps I should try and make friends with him since he might date Aiura one day?'

Y/N tried to put her socially anxious feelings aside and turned to Saiki to greet him. Attempting to seem friendly, Y/N smiled at him (although quite awkwardly).

Y/N - "Hi Saiki, it's nice to meet you."

Saiki sighed and responded without even bothering to look at her.

Saiki - "Don't talk to me."

Y/N quietly sucks her teeth at him and looked away. She also ended up muttering some insults under her breath by mistake – this is why, for the most part, she avoided initiating conversation with people. Y/N definitely gained a huge dislike for Saiki now, as she couldn't stand those with no manners.

Y/N - 'This is the guy Aiura likes? She needs to get her brain checked.'

The teacher didn't make this newfound dislike for Saiki any easier; right after, he announced to the class that they would be spending the lesson doing partner work. Both Saiki and Y/N sighed at the same time. Y/N wished she could just switch with Aiura, but Mr Iguchi typically didn't change his mind on things like this.

Y/N reluctantly turned to Saiki, who had already began the work in his book. Y/N opened her mouth to speak, but Saiki cut her off.

Saiki - "I'll do the work, as long as you don't talk to me."

Y/N rolled her eyes at him – whilst she didn't want to do the work, his attitude was pissing her off.

Y/N - "Damn, do you always have a stick up your ass?"

Y/N covered her mouth with her hand straight after she insulted him. She didn't mean to say the thought out loud. Saiki finally turned to look at her, with a small look of disdain plastered on his face.

Saiki - "I simply don't want to interact with you. Is that too difficult for you to comprehend?"

Y/N got even more agitated at his sarcastic, patronising tone.

Y/N - "Did I do something for you to dislike me so immensely?"

Saiki - "I don't dislike you, I just don't want to talk to you or anyone else for that matter."

Y/N did kind of resonate with that response. She was still annoyed by his lack of manners; and to be honest, Saiki was a little surprised at his rudeness. Whilst he had always made it an effort to get away from people, he didn't usually go about it in such a cold-hearted way. It was even more uncalled for since Y/N hadn't really been much of a pest to him.

However, something about Y/N simply irked him. Saiki couldn't put his finger on why she seemed to aggravate him.

Y/N - "You could've made that clear without being such a cun–"

Y/N awkwardly coughs and Saiki raises an eyebrow at her. Y/N stopped herself from explicitly insulting him and tried going about it with more tact.

Y/N - "I mean, you could've made it clear in a more polite way."

Saiki - "Good grief, you're so morally righteous, like Aiura."

Y/N - "Is having morals supposed to be bad!? Aiura deserves better than you."

Saiki - "Great, tell her to leave me alone then."

Y/N and Saiki continued arguing for the rest of the lesson. Both were so consumed in their bickering that they didn't realise they were drawing attention to them. Even Saiki didn't notice all the thoughts circulating about them – not even Jael's thoughts that very explicitly cursed him for being rude to Y/N.

Eventually it was the end of the lesson, and the teacher asked for the students to turn in their assignments.

Mr Iguchi - "Please pass me your partner work on the way out."

Saiki and Y/N both shut up as soon as the teacher announced that – they had completed no work the entire lesson. Whilst Y/N didn't care too much, Saiki did; a fail on an assignment would risk him losing his reputation as the average kid. He turned swiftly to face Y/N and glared at her.

Saiki - "If you hadn't distracted me with your dumb complaints, we would have finished!"

Y/N - "Excuse me!? You're the one who willingly continued the argument instead of apologizing."

Saiki - "Good grief, what are we going to do now..."

After everyone in the class had given in their work and happily went to have break time, Mr Iguchi looked to Saiki and Y/N and approached them. He put his hand out to them, gesturing for them to pass their work to him.

Mr Iguchi - "Assignment, you two?"

Y/N - "Aha... W-well..."

Saiki looked to the side awkwardly and Y/N sheepishly scratched the back of her neck. Mr Iguchi sighed at them. Disappointment was clearly visible on his face – both of you were typically focused students, so he was let down and a little shocked you didn't complete anything.

Mr Iguchi - "Right. You're going to have to spend your breaktime and lunchtime completing the work, I suppose."

Y/N and Saiki's eyes widen – they had to be trapped with each other for even longer. Mr Iguchi was a little unsettled by the utter similarity in their reactions.

Y/N & Saiki - "I have to spend more time with this idiot!?"
