"Did you hear there's a baking competition at Central Park today?"
Phil walked into the kitchen scrolling through his phone.
"There is?" (Y/n) asked. "Who's organizing it?"
"The Torres'. Some family from Nantucket who moved to New York. They used to have a lot of pie festivals there."
"Should we..." (y/n) looked at Phil and Phil looked back at her before they scrambled to get their kitchen set up.
............
"Good morning αγόρι μου." Rhea greeted. "You want to help your mom bake some pie?"
It had been a while since Tristan heard Greek but his brain had no problem translating it.
"What for?" He mumbled. He poured himself some coffee (black, of course) and took a sip.
"There's a pie baking competition! There's going to be games and stuff and even a Queen cover band."
Tristan inhaled and kept his breath there for a bit. "So a carnival?"
"Yeah." Rhea smiled. "Meredith is out with her friends and I need the extra hands."
"How many pies are you thinking of making?"
"1. 2. 12. It doesn't really matter."
.............
Soon enough Roy and all the Dunphys (minus Jay who was taking a nap and Alex who was reading out the qualifications to participate) were preheating their ovens and preparing their ingredients.
"Okay so it says you need to have 3 different flavored pies, the dough design can't be the same and the crust has to be different too. Should I submit our names?" Alex asked. "The contest starts at 5 pm"
"Alright it's currently 11:34. We have time." Luke stated.
"Let's divide our tasks." (Y/n) clasped her hands together. "Claire is on dough duty. Phil is on filling duty-seewhatididthere-I will be on decorating duty and Luke can help either 3 of us."
Luke frowned at the lack of responsibility in the kitchen. He knew his best friend didn't do it on purpose but he wasn't the clumsy kid he once was.
"Phil, you'll make a blueberry lemon pie. Claire, strawberry rhubarb, and Luke and I will help Phil make a key lime pie."
Luke's face lit up and he nodded.
"Okay you guys. MAKE YOUR PIES!"
With that, everyone scrambled to get their pie dishes, their baking ingredients, their cookbook recipes and their heads in the game.
Claire watched Gordon Ramsey make pie dough with such precision no one could make a sound.
Phil poured and mixed and tasted and measured and danced to the music playing in his headphones.
(Y/n) and Luke juiced limes and rubbed their sticky hands on each others clothing.
"Hey! Get your grimy pawd off me!" Luke laughed.
"Using you as my towel is much easier than grabbing one." She hip bumped him and continued juicing key limes.
"Okay, I've finished making the pie dough. Which pies don't need a bottom?" Claire asked.
"Ours doesn't. I'm pretty sure the strawberry and blueberry ones do." Luke said.
Phil danced a bit too hard into Claire who dropped a dish on the ground. Glass got everywhere and Alex shook her head.
"I knew this would end in disaster."
"Great Phil! Now I have to go to the store and buy a new dish." Claire said. "I could've started molding."
