Chapter 7: Luna
Something is wrong with Kai. Ever since Jax brought him back from the forest he's been oddly nice to me... too nice to me. So nice in fact, if I had a dog, I'd be checking he hadn't run it over.
"I'm hungry," Jax complains from the couch.
He's been sitting next to Alec all day trying to keep him distracted from his injured leg. They played video games, read books, played board games, watched movies and talked all evening.
"It is getting pretty late," Kai admits.
He walks into the kitchen and starts going through the fridge and freezer. After a few minutes, he sighs.
"I'll just order pizza," he says, "what does everybody want?"
"Pepperoni?" Alec asks looking hopeful.
"Sure," Kai says, "any other requests?"
He ends up ordering three large pizzas. A pepperoni, a meat lovers and a barbeque chicken.
Kai sits down on the armchair with a loud thump.
"It's been a long day," he says, rubbing his temples.
"You're telling me," I say, "I just found out my parents have been poisoning me."
Kai frowns at her sympathetically.
"I think Alec had it the worst," Jake says.
"I have to agree," Jax says.
"This is about my leg, isn't it?" he asks.
"Yes," the two of them say in unison.
"I don't know," Alec says, "Luna's thing sounds pretty bad."
"Dude, you could have lost your leg," Jax points out.
"But I didn't," he counter.
"While we're all here and talking," Kai says, "we need to sort out who is sleeping where because this is a three-bedroom house and there are five of us in it."
"Luna should probably get a room to herself," Alec says, "since she's the only girl."
"Makes sense," Kai says, "but you do know that means sacrificing the room you begged me for."
"I know," Alec says.
"Alec can stay in my room," Jax offers.
"Guess that just leaves me and Jake," Kai says, "if you're comfortable with that."
"Y-yeah, sure," Jake says, "that sounds alright."
"Any disagreements?" Kai asks.
We all shake our heads no. Our discussion is interrupted by a ring at the doorbell. Jax sniffs the air and smiles.
"Pizzas here," he says.
Kai answers the door and pays the pizza guy. He places the three pizza boxes on the bench. It does smell good.
"Come and get it," Kai says.
The three of us who can walk, walk over to the bench. Kai hands me the first plate.
"You should probably go first," Kai says, "you'd be surprised how much food Jax and Alec can consume, and I'm betting Jake isn't much different."
"Why, because they're boys?" I ask him, raising an eyebrow.
"No," he says with a laugh, "well sort of, it's because they're teenage werewolf boys."
I narrow my eyes suspiciously but take the plate and one slice of each one and then a sneaky second meat lover. It doesn't take long for me to realise that Kai was right. The four of them demolish those pizzas in no time. After dinner, Jax and Alec drag all of us into a board game.
