I was behind a tree, waiting for the right chance to grab the target and complete another small mission. A cat... Out of all things, I have to catch a cat.
"Sasuke. I'm at point B."
"Sakura, I'm at point C."
"Naruto, I'm at point A. Believe it."
I️ refused to say anything. "Hikari... Where is your location?" I didn't respond.
"I have the ball of fur in my arms. It's vibrating. He's quite cute if you ask me." I stated nonchalantly.
"Hikari... You were supposed to wait. What happened to teamwork?"
"I figured this mission was quite easy. Teamwork was not needed to catch this cat." Kakashi sighed.
"Can you verify a ribbon on its right ear?"
"Affirmative. We have a positive I.D."
As Kakashi congratulated us, I handed the cat Tora over to Naruto. Almost instantly, regret washed over his face as Tora began to claw at him, scratching his face. A chuckle slipped from my lips at first, but it quickly turned into a fit of laughter. I couldn't help it – the sight of Naruto struggling with the feisty feline was just too hilarious.
"I WANT ANOTHER MISSION!!!"
Later on
I cradled the cat in my arms as we walked because it wasn't too keen on the others holding him. Upon entering the office, I gently handed the cat back, and to my surprise, it got squished almost instantly. "Poor kitty," I whispered, a hint of shock in my voice, as I watched the unfortunate fate of the cat.
"He gets what he deserves!" Naruto grumbled under his breath.
"Yea, but I feel bad cause that's why it left in the first place." Naruto shrugged sticking his tongue out at the cat.
Shortly after that, Sarutobi addressed us, and we discussed our upcoming missions. As he went on about the small tasks we were being assigned, I couldn't help but yawn. The missions didn't exactly sound thrilling, and the boredom was starting to catch up with me.
Why are we babysitting a child? I wanna do a real-- While I was in mid-thought, Naruto yelled out that he didn't want to do this stuff and I agreed with him.
"I wanna real mission! Not some chores to do for people!" He stood there with his arms crossed in front of his body. It seemed like Lord Hokage noticed his attitude and subtly bowed his head in response. Then, Iruka stood up and called him a brat, which only made him even angrier. Meanwhile, I was standing there, fighting off drowsiness as Lord Hokage droned on about ranks and the reasons behind sending certain individuals on specific missions.
In the midst of my half-conscious state, I overheard Naruto talking about ramen, and the others were all ears, including Kakashi. I glanced at the Hokage, who seemed to catch on, and he facepalmed in frustration.
"Silence!!" He yelled out to them.
"Oh, sorry." Kakashi put his arm behind his head.
"Ugh! You always lecture me as if you are my grandfather or something! But I'm not that little brat anymore, I'm a ninja now, and I wanna real mission!" After a brief moment of silence, Sarutobi burst into a small chuckle.
"So, Naruto wants us to know he's not a brat; he's a former brat. He wants a mission. So be it."
"Huh?" We all said in unison. I wasn't really expecting him to say yes, to be honest.
