Setting Sun

You got a ride home from Eddie. You talked and had a great time on the way. It was back to the fun conversations again as you had when you first got to know each other. You were regretting that you had been avoiding him and not getting to know him better. As both of you were sitting in the van outside your house and talked for a bit more before heading in and calling it a night. You gathered your courage. "Would you like to, I don't know, hang or something some time?" You asked him, avoiding eye contact. "Of course. How about tomorrow after school?" He smiled. "Sounds great" you smiled back and went inside.

It was a long school day and you couldn't wait until it ended so you could spend the rest of the day with Eddie. It felt as if the classes were twice as long. Lunch came and you sat with the gang as usual. You took more initiative to talk with Eddie this time so that he knew you did want him as a friend. Lunch ended and classes went on, feeling three times as long this time.

Finally the torture was over and you almost ran outside to the parking lot to see Eddie standing there, waiting for you. You skipped up to him and gave him a hug. Feeling weird as you did. You had never really hugged him before. You tried to step back but just as you were about to, he grabbed a hold of you too and hugged you hard. "Can't... breathe..." you breath heavy, kind of overdramatizing it all. He laughs as he lets go of you and opens the door for you. "For my princess" he says. "Hey I'm nobody's princess, my good sir!" You exclaim as you enter the passenger's seat. "Ladida!" He replies and shuts the van door after you.

Eddie started driving. "Where are we going?" You asked. "I was thinking that maybe we could go to the lake and chill. It's a beautiful sunset there. I brought beers if you want any. Don't worry though, I won't let you have as many as you did before." He laughed. You looked over at him with fright. "Y-you mean... lover's lake?" You gulped hard. "Hey! Don't get any ideas! My body is my temple and mine alone. You ain't getting in these devine pants of mine, no sir!" He says, smirking. It got you off your edge and you sighed in relief. "I'm not invited to the party in your pants? That's rude" you joke with him and you both laugh together.

You arrive at the lake. The sun was already pretty low so it would be maybe an hour or so until sunset. He had a blanket with him which he set out on the grass and went to grab the beers he had with him. You went to take a seat on the blanket and he arrived with the beers and handed you one. You both sat there watching the lake. It was nice and the weather was perfect. Not too hot and not too cold, just perfect. You had your skirt on today since the weather was hot earlier but you were careful not to flash Eddie this time. You also had a military green vest and a long black cardigan with you just in case it got colder.

The sun was now setting and the sky was filled with a beautiful orange hue. You both watched it in silence. The only sound was coming from the stereo with a variation of Eddie's favorite songs. It wasn't too loud, just background music playing. "Fuck that's pretty" Eddie said as he looked at the sunset. "Indeed" you replied. You didn't think Eddie was that kind of guy to appreciate nature, yet here you were.

You were finished with your beer and you had a sudden urge to smoke, but not plain cigarettes. "Do you have any weed?" You asked Eddie. He looked over at you. "Yeah of course. Are you sure you want some?" He asked. "Heck yeah. Hurry before the sunset disappears!" You said with a big smile. Eddie quickly ran to the van, tripping a few times on his way up. "Shit, fuck" he said as he did. He got back and handed you the joint he had prepared. He held up his lighter as you put the spliff between your lips. You inhaled deeply and held it in your lungs for a while. You handed it back over to Eddie and he did the same. You exhaled the smoke as he inhaled. You took two more puffs but decided after that that you had enough.

The sunset was still going strong but the sun had almost emerged into the horizon. The sky looked even more beautiful now that you were starting to feel that high. You laid down on the blanket looking up at the sky. Eddie joined you and your shoulders were touching as you both laid there. "This is nice" you said. "Mmm" Eddie nodded. You turned your head to look at him, the beautiful orange hue glistened on his face. "So beautiful" you said as you then noticed you said it out loud. "Yea" he replied, thinking you meant the sky. You were glad he didn't notice you looking at him while saying it.

"Hey, y/n?" Eddie said.

-"Yeah?"

-"What happened? I mean, when you said that you had a tough time before. If you don't mind me asking."

-"Well... I don't mind but it really was a tough time for me and It's a bit hard for me to talk about. Essentially it was really bad. I had a boyfriend and he was really abusive and overprotective and I guess that has left me with no hopes for good guys."

It was silent for a while but then Eddie turned to his side, his whole body facing you. "I'm sorry that happened to you. You really don't deserve it." He says, reaching out with hand to comfort you but stops and puts his hand back on the blanket. "It's okay. I've gotten over it by now." You smile back at him, turning your body to face him as well.

It had gotten dark by now and you were still facing each other, talking. You still felt a little high and you felt yourself wanting to inch closer to him for warmth since you were feeling a bit cold. Instead you got your cardigan and put it on, now sitting up. "You cold?" Eddie asked you. "Just a little" you replied.

He got up from his lying position and went in for a hug. "I'll warm you, sweetheart." He said as he rubbed his arms up and down your body to warm you up. He was really warm and you leaned into him fully emerging yourself in his embrace. You slowly slide your hands around his waist and onto his back under his jeans jacket. As you touched him he stopped rubbing his hands up and down. You had your ear against his chest and you could hear his heart beat grow faster. You continued to trace your hands up to his shoulder blades and gently pushed your fingertips into his back. You could hear a soft sigh coming from Eddie's lips and you noticed that he liked your touch which in turn made you confident in your movements.

Your hands continued to stroke his back as he embraced you. His hand now moved up your neck and slid up in your hair, brushing through it with his fingers. Now it was your turn to let out a gentle sigh.

Suddenly he moved his body away from you just slightly. He looked into your eyes and you looked back. Eddie took his hand out of your hair and placed it on your cheek. "You're so fucking beautiful" he said, still keeping his eyes on you.
