The next morning, the teens were eating breakfast when Dick came in to inform them that training started in twenty minutes.'Fuck, it's to early for this' Jade groaned in her head, watching the others warm up.
"Alright, you three I want you to practice those punches I was showing you yesterday. Jade, I'm just going to be assessing your skills today" Dick said, pointing at people as he spoke to them.
Clapping his hands together, he led Jade towards a mat in the center of the room, whilst the others moved towards the punching bags.
"So, Barry tells me you're better at the powers aspect of being a hero. Care to show me?" Dick said, making it obvious she couldn't say no.
"Yeah, sure. What do you want me to do?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips as she stood opposite him.
"I want you to tie the climbing ropes together-"
"On it-" She said crouching down to take off.
"Hang on! There's a catch. I'm going to jump and I want them to be tied before I land. Got it?"
"Uh, yeah, sure" She said crouching into a running stance, red electricity crackling around her as she gathered energy.
"Go!" Dick said, jumping off the ground.
Time slowed around her once she took off running towards the roped she tangled them as fast as she could and turned to make her way back to Dick who was just reaching the apex of his jump.
She looked around, her eyes catching on the teens over on the right.
She saw the perfect opportunity.
Running over to Rachel's designated punching bag she quickly replaced the bag with an identical one which was empty of sand that she had spotted lying in a corner.
Running back over to Dick, she watched time return to normal as he hit the ground.
Glancing over at the tangled ropes, he looked over to her, opening his mouth to do his best at praising her.
"What?" Rachel said from the other side of the room, looking towards her punching bag with confusion written across her face.
"What's wrong?" Dick asked, turning towards Rachel.
"My bag, it's empty" She said, unzipping the empty bag.
"What- Jade" Dick said sternly, turning towards her.
"Yes?" She said, clasping her hands behind her back, feigning innocence.
"No powers" He said bluntly.
"Unless training calls for it" She mumbled.
"What?" Dick replied.
"You said 'No powers unless training calls for it' and training called for it" Jade responded smirking at him.
"You know what I meant" Dick said, running a hand down his face. Great, he's got another smartass to deal with now.
She simply shrugged in response a smirk still playing on her face.
"Rachel, go grab yourself another bag. Gar, help her hang it up. Jade, I want to assess your fighting style. No powers this time" Dick said, pointing at each teen as he said their name.
Dick turned back to Jade once Rachel and Gar started moving.
"Alright let me see your stance" Dick commanded.
Lowering herself into a defensive stance, she shifted her feet apart and lifted her fists level to her collar bones.
"That's good, make sure your centered so it's harder to knock you down"
"Oka-" She said, getting cut off by Dick abruptly shoving her shoulder, pushing her to the ground.
"Ow! What the fuck man?!" Jade said, shocked.
"You weren't centered"
"Yeah, no shit" She replied, glaring at him from the floor.
"Okay, get up. I want you to try and hit me" He said holding up his hands, palms facing her.
Getting back up she curled her right hand into a first and swung at his palm, only to miss when he redirected her hit to the left.
"Come on, try again" He prompted.
Swinging again, she was once again redirected, now receiving a quick hit to her ribs.
"Come on, Jade. Hit me!" Dick said louder.
Going to hit him again with more force than before, she was once again foiled when he grabbed her wrist, bringing her arm over his shoulder, turning and flipping her.
"Come on, Jade. You're better than that" Dick said looking down at the now red faced girl, offering her his hand.
Noticing the small audience watching them spar, her mood soured. Slapping his hand away and standing up on her own.
"Can I go get some air?" She said, angling her red face downward in hopes to avoid more embarrassment.
"Yeah, sure. Just don't take to long" Dick replied.
Quickly nodding, she walked out as fast as she could without using her powers.
Walking up to the roof she sat down with her back against the stone barrier that blocked her from falling to her death.
Leaning her head on her hands she tried to calm her breathing. Now was not the time to freak out.
"Hey!" A voice called from the stairs.
Peeking through her fingers she saw the source of the voice. Jason Todd.
"You- You okay?" He asked, shoving his hands in his jeans pockets.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little stuffy in there" She lied
"Yeah..." He said, obviously not very good at talking to people either.
Turning towards the skyline, Jason sighed.
"It's a nice view up here" He said, trying to start a conversation.
Not that she would ever admit it, but she was thankful for the distraction.
"Yeah. So... you're the new Robin, right?" She asked getting up from the ground, now leaning her back against the barrier.
"Yeah"
"What's he like?" Jade asked.
"Who" Jason asked, walking towards the barrier to lean his forearms on it.
"Bats, B-Man, The Dark Knight" Jade said, tilting her head in his direction.
"He's- He's great, man" Jason replied, a smile brightening his face as he watched her.
"Really? I always thought he'd be really moody and serious" Jade said jokingly.
"Oh, Don't get me wrong, he is. He's just... I don't know" Jason said, smirking slightly.
Jason wasn't one for making friends, most people usually ditched him before getting to know him. But, something about Jade felt different, maybe it was her sense of humour , or the fact she was even bothering to talk to him at all, but he felt weird.
When he first saw her, he thought she was hot, obviously. Her dark hair that reached the middle of her back, and her undeniably attractive physique. Not now all he could see was her eyes, even with the slight discoloration in one, it was like he could see her soul, her eyes were portraying her every emotion.
He thought it was beautiful.
"You know, I'm going to be here a while. Maybe we could hang out? It would be nice to have a friend here" Jade said, smiling at the boy beside her.
"Yeah... That'd be cool" Jason replied, hoping this time his new friend would stick around.
