"𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐘 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐄𝐓𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖." is what niki had said to sunoo yesterday.
niki was pacing the halls while waiting outside a certain someone's class, stressing. if sunoo was going to attend his game, it would distract him and make him panic even more. the need to impress sunoo was so great, niki believed he would die if he didn't play well in front of the other. which is why he was outside jay's classroom now, about to bombard him with pleas to practice extra with him after class.
'ugh! when is this idiot's class going to end?' niki expressed in his mind furiously.
he slid down the wall right next to the door and sat there, head against the material as he contemplated his decisions. 5 minutes later, niki was close to passing out when the door clicked and opened beside him. next, a stream of fashion design students bustled out in a hurry. niki stood up and spotted jay in the line, grabbing onto his forearm and pulling him out.
"jay!" he had whisper-shouted once in close proximity with him.
"oh, niki. what do you need?"
"practice! basketball! please?" niki fumbled, not sure what was coming out of his mouth.
"what? we had practice yesterday, kiddo. the game's today." jay reminded him, not sure why he felt niki tense at the mention of the game. "are you nervous or something?"
"um. i just felt the need to get some extra hoops in before, you know?" niki removed his grip and rubbed the nape of his neck. "not nervous at all."
"what's got your hair in a mess? i can tell something's up." jay crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows expectantly.
niki let out an annoyed huff of air. "just practice with me!"
"okay, okay. i won't pry. let's go." jay straightened his bag and headed towards the school gym with niki following closely behind.
"niki, you're one of the best players on our team. why are you all nervous now?" jay asked while getting a ball from the storage room.
"uh..." niki started nervously. he wasn't sure if jay was going to make fun of, laugh, or sympathize with him when he told him.
"you can tell me."
"fine! there's this guy i met a month ago, and he's coming to the game today. i don't know why, but i really want to impress him." niki rushed his words.
"i totally understood that." jay smirked. the only words he actually made out were "guy i met a month ago". "does little niki... maybe... have a crush?"
"no! he's just become a really good friend." the younger justified while ceasing his warm-up exercises.
"you never want to impress jake, sunghoon, or heeseung when they come to our games." jay pressed with a knowing grin.
"shut up! let's just play." niki said in an angry blush.
a few hours later, niki and jay were sat on the first two rows of the gym bleachers, drinking water.
"i think that's enough practice." niki stated.
"yeah. the game's in a couple of hours. let's go back to the dorms and rest." jay suggested.
"alright. see you!" niki exclaimed, watching jay pick up his bags and head out the door.
niki sighed and picked up his phone, scrolling through notifications. he widened his eyes when he saw he had missed a call from sunoo and had 2 unread messages from him. he sat up straight and opened the messages, planning to call him back afterward. the messages sunoo sent made niki's heart ascend.

niki blushed and covered his mouth as he stared in awe at the older boy's selfie. he then slapped himself out of it and turned his phone off, exiting the gym as well.
