𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗢𝗢 feels the newly born cherry blossom petals sprinkle around his body as he walks along the sidewalk. it's springtime, meaning exam season is nearing. sunoo is on his way to the campus library, as he's preparing for a month of caffeine-filled diets, all-nighters, staring at a textbook for hours upon hours, etcetera etcetera.

     the boy tucks his hands into his sweater sleeves, creating sweater paws as a strong breeze of chilled air brushes his hair back. he holds onto his headphones, so as to not accidentally drop and break them. sunoo somehow finds a sense of calmness and purity in the air, closing his eyes and letting his feet lead him. he feels his phone vibrate in his pocket, startling him out of his trance.

     taking out his phone, the boy unlocks it and sees a message from his best friend, yang jungwon. it read:

"sunoo, r u almost there?? i've been waiting here for 10 minutes😐"

sunoo scoffs and types in a hurried manner. he had almost forgotten that he was meeting jungwon at the library for a study session.

"i'm almost there. calm ur impatient ass down"

     he chuckles a little and puts his phone back into his pocket as he continues walking. sunoo closed his eyes, humming softly to the music and enjoying the breeze. not more than five seconds later, though, sunoo is knocked down by a strong force. sunoo lets out a strangled yelp and opens his eyes as he hits the floor quite harshly. he groans and peeks one eye open to find a boy hovering over him with a worried expression.

"i'm so sorry. are you okay?" the boy asks as he sticks out a hand.

     sunoo nods, taking his hand and lifting himself up. the boy then starts bowing his head repeatedly.

"i'm very sorry again. i was in a hurry and i wasn't watching where i was going."

"hey, it's okay. no worries." sunoo giggles and the boy stops bowing.

"ah, okay," he then looks down at his hands and looks around frantically as he mutters. "my book, oh no. where did it go?"

sunoo looks down at his feet and picks up a familiar-looking book. "is it this one?"

the boy looks back at him and exclaims: "oh, yes! thank you so much!"

sunoo then reaches around to grab the same book out of his backpack. they compare it and then the boy grins. sunoo feels his heart beat once more than usual.

"you're an astronomy major as well?" he asks.

"yeah!" sunoo smiles back and then adds, "i'm kim sunoo. what's your name?"

"ah, my name is nishimura riki. but you can just call me niki!"

"you're japanese? that's so cool!"

     niki began talking about where he was from, and sunoo used this time to take in niki's appearance. niki was really tall, like a giant. he had wavy black hair that was parted down the middle and covered some of his eyes. he had on blue, knee-length shorts and a navy blue hoodie over a plain white t-shirt. his features were attractive, and sunoo thought he could stare at the other boy all day.

     it turns out that niki was a year younger than sunoo, surprising the older as niki looked more mature. they started talking about astronomy and lost themselves in the conversation before sunoo's phone rang loudly. he took it out, and saw it was from jungwon.

"shit!" sunoo exclaimed. "i'm sorry, niki, i promised my friend we'd have a study session at the library together. i have to go."

"ah! no, you're fine!" he smiled. "but, uh..."

niki looked away, seemingly hesitant or embarrassed.

"hm?" sunoo waited expectantly.

"uh, can i have your number?" the other faced sunoo and blurted out.

"oh!" sunoo chuckled. "of course."

     they exchanged numbers, and niki thanked him while staring into his eyes. they smiled at each other unknowingly, almost losing themself in the other's gaze before sunoo's phone began blowing up unexpectedly. sunoo jumped and smiled awkwardly at niki before bidding him goodbye and running off. niki smiled widely and looked down, gasping.

"wait, you left your-" niki began to shout but to no avail, as the other's figure slowly faded. "-headphones."

niki stared down at the pair of headphones, and then his phone, laughing quietly to himself before continuing to walk.
