You sighed as yet another medal was placed around your neck. Another day, another win, was how you looked at it.

And that win wasn't even worthy of a medal, you were sure. You didn't go full-power even once. Your coach told you to hold back or you'd be benched or the team would be disqualified. Was that the truth? Would your team get thrown out if you played too good? You had never worked up the courage to get to know that. So you always held back. Every single time, every single play you made, was half-hearted. The thought made you narrow your eyes, disgusted with yourself. You thought high school might be different and here you were, the end of your second year, and nothing had changed. It was infuriating, really.

Yet, you put on your best smile that didn't quite reach your eyes as you spaced out, staring at the ceiling. You wished for a turn of events, something interesting, something, something-

New. Something new. A change or maybe a challenge, even. You scoffed to yourself at the thought. As if that would ever happen. A change? Perhaps. But a challenge? Never.
