Request: Platonic Bucky Barnes x Steve Rodgers x fem!reader in the 1940s requested by 

Steve and Y/N were waiting (im)patiently at Bucky's bedroom door. He said he had to get "ready". You both knew he was just trying to impress some 'dolls' that were going to be at the theatre. Y/N started banging loudly on door. "Bucky! Hurry up! We're gonna be late!" Bucky opened the door in response with a flashy sort of uniform on. Y/N rolled her eyes. Steve just looked at him and said "I know you're desperate to get a girl, but I didn't know you were this desperate." Y/N hummed in agreement and Bucky just scoffed. "I'm getting a partner before either of you, and you both know it," he said.  "Now, come on we're gonna be late."   

The three of you got in a taxi and started heading towards you're destination: The movies. And all Steve would talk about on the ride there was the war. Always the war. "Steve, can we PLEASE talk about something else?" Y/N groaned. "I get it. You wanna fight. But, why don't we enjoy the time we all have together, eh?" Bucky said. Just as Steve was about to reply, the driver came to a stop. "Alright this is you're stop! Enjoy the movie!" He said. "Thank you." Steve said before getting out of the car. 

There were maybe 50 to 100 people crowded around the theatre. The three of you looked at the big sign reading "CASABLANCA". It was a weird name for a movie, you thought. But, if it's so weird, then it must be good! You payed for the tickets, got a bag of popcorn and walked in, having no idea what to expect. 

As per usual, as soon as you all walked into the theatre and sat down, Bucky started flirting with some girls in the row behind you. Y/N roller her eyes, but Steve looked uncomfortable. She was concerned for her friend. "Hey, let's go outside real quick." Y/N said. Steve nodded in agreement. 

"What's going on?" you asked. "Nothing." Steve replied, and managed to put a smile on his face. 

"Steve. What's going on?" 

He sighed. "Bucky's going to be leaving soon. And, we don't really spend much time together, the three of us. And...what if he doesn't come back? What if we lose him, and we'll know we can't do anything about it."

"Don't think like that, Steve. I know he's leaving soon, but we just have to cherish our time together. I mean, if he goes out, at least he's going out like a hero. It's what he always wanted. But, we don't know anything for sure yet. We never knew this war was coming, we don't know who is going to win it, and we can't decide the fate of this war. I know it sounds stupid in these circumstances, but we just gotta roll with it." 

"I guess you're right. Thank you, Y/N." You two embraced each other. 

Bucky came out of the theatre soon after. "Hey, where were you guys? I've been looking everywhere for you! Did something happen? Did Steve throw up again?" 

"No." Y/N said. "Great! Let's go back in the theatre, then-" 

"Why do you always talk to the girls when the three of us go somewhere? Sometimes it's like you're going on a date, and Y/N and I are just the third wheels. You're leaving soon. Really soon. We need to cherish our time together because what if this is the last time we ever see you?" 

Bucky was kind of taken back by Steve's comment. "I-I never thought of that. I guess I got so focused on living my life to the fullest that I forgot who I was living it for. The truth is..I'm scared. I don't know for sure if I'll come back or not. Or if I come back, will I be in good condition? I'm trying not to worry about that until the time comes to worry. From now on, I'll cherish everything in my life. Including you two suckers." Bucky smiled. 

"Alright, let's get out of here. Who needs to watch a movie, when we could be living one right now?" You said. You linked arm in arm, and danced all the way back home.
