Sophie closed the door softly behind her, click. A blonde-haired boy threw his arms open and enveloped her in a hug, "Foster! My favorite person!" Ro snorted from behind him, her choppy pigtails were still ice-blue. "Has our little Blondie finally gotten over Fitzy-Witzy?" She asked mockingly. Sophie squeezed Keefe tighter, then let go. "I'm going to break up with him," She said steadily, unflinching.

Ro coughed, the only evident sound of surprise. Keefe stiffened, and then after a thought, grabbed her hand. "Foster... is this because of what I told you?" The guilt in his voice was clear, as his eyes darted across her face. "Partially," Sophie admitted, "But mostly it's just that he's not the same person I knew. He's not the Fitz I liked."

Keefe's eyes, ice-blue, glittered with remorse. "Still... I shouldn't have told you. If, when, Fitz hears about this... he'll hate me," Keefe said dully, dropping her hand as he looked down at the floor. "Lighten up, Hunkyhair! You can get your girl!" Ro said, a smirk ever present on her face.

Sophie's face burned, and she looked down at the ground, wishing that a crack would appear and swallow her up. Sadly, one didn't. "She's not my girl, Ro," Keefe mumbled, blushing red. Ro rolled her eyes, "Sure. I've seen the way you look at each other, all lovey-eyed, even if you don't know it." Sophie and Keefe denied it, with rolled eyes and crossed arms.

Tinkling filled the halls, and Keefe bolted upright. "Lunch," He smirked, "Also, where's Gigantor?" Sophie sighed, "He's off in Gildingham, gallivanting and doing who-knows-what." Ro snickered, "I can just imagine Gigantor frolicking in a field of pink flowers." She snorted. Keefe snickered at that, Sophie following suit.

Keefe then grabbed her hand and pulled her to the lunch room, Ro trailing behind them. They arrived and grabbed some golden-striped fruit slices, and a couple of fluffy pastry things. "What are these?" Sophie wondered aloud, as they walked toward their table, fingers twined together. "Panakepuffs," Sophie looked up at him. "Panake?" Keefe nodded, "They gathered the essence into vials and incorporated it into puffs of dough." Sophie smiled, "I wonder if they have healing properties?"

Keefe shrugged, "You never know!" He smirked. They plunked their trays down, Biana raising her eyebrows at their hands. "Hey Soph," she started, smirking at her friend. Sophie's cheeks flushed, "Hey Biana," she muttered back. She sat down and Keefe joined her. She picked up the fluffy, round ball of dough and bit into it. It... It tasted like a meringue wrapped in panake petals, with a crispy, flaky crust. She groaned, "This is so good," before continuing to bite into it.

"Hey," A crisp, accented voice above her said. "Can I sit here?" Sophie, Keefe, Biana, Tam, Linh, Marella, Maruca, Dex, and Stina all looked up at him in unison. "I don't know, can you?" Biana and Keefe said at the same time. Fitz glared at them and sat, "Yeah. I guess I can." He snorted, rolling his eyes.

He grabbed Sophie's hand under the table and squeezed. She ripped her hand away from him, putting it in her lap. "Sophie, are you mad at me?" Fitz asked, his teal eyes beseeching hers. "Actually. Yes. I am." She said coldly, moving closer to Keefe.

"Why?" He asked, flashing his movie-star smile. She noticed it didn't make her heart flutter like it normally did. "Because you lied to me!" She heard herself say, tears welling in her eyes. "Because you couldn't accept that I was Unmatchable, so much so that you invaded Mr. Forkle's mind and gave the information to the Matchmakers!" Their whole table gasped at this, shocked. Tam breathed, "What?-" Linh looked between them, wide-eyed. The rest of them just looked at Fitz, the shock clear in their eyes.

"You did what?" Dex breathed, his periwinkle eyes wide. Fitz snorted, "Yeah, so?" Sophie saw red at those words. "So you broke the rules of Telepathy! So you ignored my wishes and put my name into the Match base, and lied to my face about how you got the information!" Fitz rolled his eyes, "The rules of Telepathy are idiotic and pathetic."

Keefe muttered, "Your life is idiotic and pathetic, Vacker." Sophie choked on a laugh, trying to keep a straight face as Fitz ranted on. "I did it for us, Sophie! I thought you wanted it!" Sophie glared at him, her hands shaking. "I never wanted this. I was willing to do it for you, but it's honestly idiotic. I just wanted to be your girlfriend, but I don't see why I wanted that anymore!" Sophie cried, her voice breaking. It was like they were the only people in the room.

Fitz stared at her, teal eyes wide, and raised his hand toward her face. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and whispered, "Is that what you think?" Sophie raised her hand, grabbing Fitz's wrist. He quickly pried her fingers off and wrapped his own around her wrist tightly, "Let. Go. Of. Me." She snarled. Fitz's eyes turned flinty. "Is that what you think, Sophie?" Sophie tried to wrench her wrist away from him, but he grabbed her wrist, his grip like iron. "Yes." She said, her voice cracking. His sad smile turned feral, a slash of white on his face. "If that's so," He murmured. He twisted his hand, lightning fast, and a crack! resonated through her bones. He dropped her wrist and stalked out of the room.

She stared after him, pain singing through her bones. Nobody in the cafeteria had noticed, the loud chatter and laughter had masked it. Tears welled in her eyes and started to fall. Her wrist was twisted the wrong way and hung limply at her side. She bit her lip, drawing blood. Her friends stared at her in shock, pity and fear written across their faces. "I'm going to skin him alive," Keefe breathed, as tears slid down Sophie's cheeks, trying to stifle a sob.
