I need— help.
Sophie couldn't feel anything—at all.
She needed air—
Everything blacked out.
—
"Sophie!" Oralie cried, shaking her harder. "Please wake up, I'm so sorry—" She sobbed harder, tears dripping from her normally composed face. "I—"
She wasn't breathing.
Trix crouched lower and tilted Sophie's head up.
"Trix, what are you doing?" Oralie shrieked.
"Uh, trying to save her?" Trix said drily.
Scrunching his brow in concentration, wind flowed around them. Gathering wind in his hand, he sent it through Sophie, attempting to revive her.
"It's not working!" Oralie cried, hyperventilating. "Why isn't it working?"
Trix's movements grew frantic. "I don't know, Alie."
Whisking the wind around faster, he sent it rushing through Sophie.
—
Light, blindingly white light shone in her eyes.
Where am I?
Sophie wondered, in a strange, dream-like state.
Safe.
—
Sophie coughed weakly. "Where am I?..."
She forced her eyes open, to the sight of a hooded Neverseen member above her, and Oralie looking down worriedly.
"Get off of me!" Sophie rasped, feebly thrashing.
"Calm down," A smooth voice drawled. "you're safe."
That voice.
A smooth, rich voice.
"Uh, Alie, is she okay?" The figure asked, whispering to Oralie.
A ghostly whisper.
Sharp sweetness, coating her tongue.
Sickly-sweet fumes, writhing around her.
Red-hot burns.
Grasping hands.
"You." Sophie hissed, glaring at the person who had helped kidnap her and Dex—had helped torture them.
"You monster."
Hot, angry tears welled in Sophie's eyes.
"Wait," Oralie pleaded. "Sophie— let us explain."
Sophie scoffed. "Explain? Explain what, exactly?"
The figure lowered his hood, revealing
burnt-umber hair, golden-brown skin, and dark blue eyes—nearly black."We're here to help you," Trix purred. "Unless you don't want us to?"
Biting back her retort, Sophie nodded weakly.
"Fine."
Oralie quickly stood up, looking at Trix as he rose slowly. "Can you lift her?" She questioned, looking worriedly at Trix.
Trix smirked. "Of course."
Gathering wind in his hand, he wove it into a smooth surface, gently shoving it under Sophie to lift her up, prone on her back. "All good there, moonlark?" Trix said mockingly.
