Sophie and Biana exchanged a shocked look,
Keefe? With the Neverseen?
In unison, they both turned to Keefe, lips parted in shock.
Keefe's eyes were steely as he held up a finger, indicating for quiet.
"Which one?" Keefe drawled, cocking a lazy grin. "Ruy? Ooh! What about Fintan?"
His eyes lit up, "'Cause, y'know, he betrayed you guys."
Gethen's irritated voice sounded through the room, "No, I want you to kill Alvar." He said sarcastically.
Keefe stiffened. "W— How?"
The blank screen flashed white, then showed Gethen's face—devastatingly good-looking, floppy white-blond hair falling over his face, crushing blue eyes glaring at Keefe. "We already eliminated him, you moron. Of course I mean Ruy! What other traitors are there?" He sighed, exasperated.
Keefe slowly dipped his head in a nod, "Um, what about our... deal?"
Gethen scoffed, "What deal?"
Pure panic flashed on Keefe's face for a split second, barely noticeable.
"You don't hurt Sophie."
A small gasp escaped Sophie's lips. Keefe was working with the Neverseen... because of her?
Gethen scoffed, "And?"
Keefe straightened, "And you tell me who her biological parents are."
A surprised squeak escaped her lips.
Keefe wanted to know who her parents were? Why did he care?
Dread permeated her senses, anxiety bubbling up.
Gethen smirked, "Well. Look who grew some backbone!"
Keefe's voice hardened, "I mean it."
Gethen rolled his eyes, "I don't doubt you do. I'll tell you as soon as you do something for me."
Keefe quirked a brow, "Okay, what?"
"Deliver orders to agent Vacker—his orders for the next assignment."
Keefe nodded, jaw clenched. "Okay. Where should I meet him?"
Gethen sighed, "You know where."
The screen flashed white, Keefe snapping the imparter shut.
"Sophie... I can explain." Keefe said weakly, a small lopsided smirk on his face.
Sophie's eyes welled with tears, slowly sliding down her face.
"My parents, Keefe?" She whispered, hot tears flowing.
He tore a hand through his hair. "It's not what you think it is—I can explain." He tried, moving closer to Sophie.
Biana stared between the two of them, mouth slightly agape. "I—" She started, shaking her head. "Keefe, get out." Biana said firmly. "Out."
Keefe opened his mouth, about to protest.
Biana shot him a withering glare. "Out. Now."
He slowly got up, throwing a glance at Sophie.
Sophie's eyes met his, and she bit her lip hard, drawing blood.
He let out a defeated sigh, trudging to her door, then closing it as he left the room.
Biana scooted over to Sophie, wrapping her in a hug. "Hey, it'll be okay." She said softly, rubbing slow circles on her back.
