Sophie's POV:
"I like you too," Fitz said. What?? "Will you be my girlfriend?"My heart nearly beat out of my chest. "Yes," I said. He leaned in and kissed me again causing butterflies to flutter around my stomach. Fitz Vacker just asked me out. I was dating Fitz Vacker.
Just then, Dexs parents pulled up and Dex ran out of the house. I walked up to the car and got in, waving to a smiling Fitz as we drove away.
I turned to Dex and noticed he was staring at me. "So, what happened with Wonderboy? Did he...?" Dex said, not finishing what he was saying but I could tell what he was implying. He was asking if Fitz had rejected me.
I blushed pink. "Um, actually, Fitz asked me out," I smiled.
Although it was dark in the car, Dexs eyes appeared to widen. "You're... dating Wonderboy? You're his... girlfriend?" He asked, a tinge of disappointment buried in his voice. Or at least it sounded like disappointment. But... why would Dex be disappointed.
"Fitz, and, well, yeah," I felt a tinge of pride as I realized that I was Fitz's girlfriend. He had said that lots of girls here liked either him and Fitz and he knew that still chose me.
A look that appeared to be a grimace popped onto Dexs face as he turned to look out his window.
Silence filled the car for a few seemingly endless seconds until Dexs mom spoke. "How was the party?" She asked.
"It was fun!" I said at the same time as Dex mumbled "it was fine."
Just then, we pulled into my driveway and I got out of the car waving goodbye to Dex and thanking his parents for taking me home. As I walked up to my house I heard a voice shouting for me. "Hey, Foster, wait up!"
I turned to see a sweaty and slightly out of breath Keefe running into my driveway. "Keefe, hey! Did you... run home?"
He frowned for a moment before laughing. "Yeah, I um, didn't have a ride home," he said.
"You could have come with me and Dex... or... why didn't your dad come pick you up?" I asked.
His face darkened- the same way it did when he mentioned his dad at school earlier that day. "I guess my dad had more important things to do than pick up his son from a party,"
"You're not important to your own father?" I asked softly. He looked so vulnerable.
He put on a smile. "Worried about me, Foster? Don't be. I'm fine." But the words didn't feel true and the smile didn't reach his eyes. So, even though he insisted he was fine, I stepped forward and gave him a hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck. After a moment, he put his arms around my waist, burying his head in my hair on my shoulder.
After a moment, we stepped apart and he changed the subject. "So, you like the Fitzter huh? What did he come say to you before you left?" His voice shifted into a flawless impression of Fitz, "oh Sophie, I love you and your brown eyes! Will you make me the happiest man on earth and marry me?"
My eyes widened. "Um, no! But, um, he asked me out!" I pressed my lips together to hide a smile that was spreading across my face along with dark red blush.
Keefes face seemed to drop a little but it was so fast that I wondered if it actually happened. "So, you and Fitzy, couple of the year, huh? The amazing Fitzphie?" He smirked and I rolled my eyes, laughing a little.
Suddenly, Grady was outside, glaring at Keefe. "Sophie, it's time to come in," he said, continuing to glare at Keefe the whole time I was walking inside.
"Sophie, I thought I had told you to stay away from Keefe," Grady said as soon as the door was closed.
"Cant I hang out with who I want?" I asked, defensively.
"You can but... I really advise against you hanging out with Keefe. He really is bad news and... I guess I can't stop you guys from hanging out but are you guys...?" Grady asked, trailing off leaving off one word: dating.
"No! Why would you think that?"
"I saw you guys hugging. Are you sure that's all you are?" Grady asked, making me wonder how long he had been there.
"Grady, um, I hadn't felt like I needed to say this before but, um, I'm dating Fitz." I said.
Edaline burst into the room suddenly. "Fitz Vacker? You guys are dating? Awwww!" She said, trapping me in a hug. "Since when?"
I blushed. "Since tonight. Right at the end of the party."
"Aww that's so cute!"
"I should get to bed, Im gonna be exhausted for school tomorrow," I said, but when I went upstairs I didn't go to bed. I first wrote in my diary before tossing and turning in my bed, hugging my stuffed elephant, Ella. What was I supposed to do tomorrow as Fitz's girlfriend? I had never even liked a guy before, much less had a boyfriend. Even after staying up almost the entire night and only getting three hours of sleep, I had no clue what to do or say the next day.
As I fell into my few hours of sleep, dreams of me and Fitz as characters from romance novels flooded my brain, carrying me into a peaceful slumber, only hours before my alarm would go off.
