Sophie's POV:
As I walked into school that morning, my heart pounded. I heard the footsteps of people walking in behind me and said I silent prayer that it wasn't Fitz, I wasn't ready to face him, I still had no clue what to say. As I looked into my locker, getting my math binder, I heard someone stop behind me. Suddenly, I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist.

"Hey, Soph," A charming voice with a crisp accent said.

I turned around, smiling, to see Fitz, hugging me from close to him. "Hey, Fitz," I said as he leaned in to kiss me softly.

"Barf," Keefe said, rolling his eyes. I suddenly realized that he was leaning on the locker next to mine.

Fitz rolled his eye at him and moved his arm to around my shoulder.

Jessi Londens POV:
Who was that girl with Fitz? She wasn't very pretty, and clearly wasn't popular seeing as I had no clue she was, and she looked younger, a sophomore at the oldest. Why was Fitz with her?

"Omigod, who is that with Fitz Vacker?" My best friend Macie Lacrent whispered to me, staring at them.

"I don't know," I said, glaring at the girl Fitz had his arm around, "but I intend to find out."

I slammed my locker shut and Macie followed me as I walked down the hallway.

Fitz's POV:
Shit, I thought as Jessi Londen and Macie Lacrent walked up to me and Sophie, glaring and whispering to each other.

I tightened my grip around Sophie and whispered in her ear, "ignore anything they say," as they got closer.

The second Jessi got close enough, she put her hand on my shoulder- the one that was farther away from Sophie. I shoved her hand off but she put it back. I glared at her slightly. "What do you want Jessi?" I asked.

I felt my arm fall as out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sophie step back towards Keefe, who put his arm around her protectively as he stepped forward.

"Why do you assume I want something, Babe?" Jessi said, her eyes narrowed as she smiled in a flirty way.

"Don't call me that," I said.

"Oh please, Fitz, you always loooved when I called you that. Anyway, I just wanted to find out who your new little girlfriend is," She said, making her fingers walk up my arm to the bottom of my neck. I glared.

"It's none of your business," I said.

"Oh please, we both know this is perfectly my business. When my ex boyfriend starts making out with some, less than attractive- and certainly not popular- girl in the halls, that reflects on me," Jessi said.

Keefes POV:
As Jessi said that, I looked over at Sophie who's eyes looked watery as she wrapped her arms around her stomach and covered her face with her hair. I tightened my arm around her as I decided it was time I step into the conversation. "Yeah, right, Fosters a lot more attractive than you'll ever be," I said.

Jessi rolled her eyes as she turned towards me and Sophie buried herself further into my arms. "Ah, yes, Keefe Sencen. Always butting in, never knowing when he's not wanted. Which is strange for a guy who's never wanted. And, Fitz, you really trust these two that much that you have your best friend hugging and protecting your little girlfriend? Interesting." I didn't like the way Jessi was implying that I would steal my best friends girlfriend, even if a part of me did like Sophie.

"Look, Jessi, just leave us alone," Fitz said, "I really like Sophie, and nothing you say is gonna change that. Sorry, but we're done and you acting like this is the last way to get that to change,"

"So, her names Sophie. Ha, adorable. And, Sencen over here called her Foster. Sophie Foster. Cute. Well, I got what I wanted. See you around Babe, mwah!" She blew a kiss at Fitz as she walked away.

Fitz mumbled something about how annoying Jessi was before walking up to Sophie quickly saying "don't take anything she said to heart Sophie, it's just jealousy," and gave her a kiss on the cheek, walking away.

I realized Sophie was still in my arms and let go, looking her in the eye. "Hey, Sophie, Fitz is right. Anything Jessi said was just cause she's jealous."

"Really? Cause it's all true. I'm not popular, I'm not pretty, I- Fitz would be better of with someone like her," Sophie's voice sounded strained like she was trying not to cry, but she failed as a single tear rolled down her face.

I stepped closer to her and wiped the tear off. "Sophie... you are the most beautiful girl I know, and Fitz loves you. I can tell. A lot more than he ever loved Jessi. Anyone would like you better. But, seriously don't listen to her about you not being pretty. It's not true. Anyone can see it,"

"You... you called me Sophie," she said, and I realized I had.

"This seemed like the time to be serious."

I realized in that moment just how close I had gotten to Sophie. I felt her breath on my cheek as she looked up at me and I stepped back. I didn't want to be like Jessi thought I was. Someone who would steal his friends girlfriend. Even if I did like Sophie, I had to forget about it. But as Sophie looked at me for a second before pulling me in for a hug, I realized that that would be harder than I'd thought.
