Petra stared at him. How was she going to explain this? She thought she had more time to build her case and convince the others that this was okay. Well, she thought he was okay.
"He's teaching you how to cast right?" Petra looked down at her feet. Suddenly feeling very small. Kai's piercing gaze bore into her as he waited for some sort of explanation. Petra stayed silent, shifting her gaze, not knowing what to say.
"I can't believe this." A huff escaped Kai's mouth and he began to storm off back to the cabin.
"Wait" Petra shouted after him, running to catch him up but he just carried on walking. "Kai please!" Petra tried to grab his wrist but missed, clutching onto the air instead.
"Blu's teaching her how to cast." Kai exclaimed as soon as he arrived on the outskirts of Hendry's cabin. Ruby, Three and Hendry snapped their heads towards the source of the shouting with a collective "What?"
"The mysterious Astral teacher is Blu?" Ruby tried to clarify but one look at Petra's guilty face told her that Kai was telling the truth.
"You do know what he tried to do to me? Us? He's Frayda's son Petra! You have no idea what could happen now. If they know you can cast, that's it. You'll be used for their messed-up plan." Blu ranted, arms flailing as he spoke. He paced around the fire pit, teeth clenched. Petra had never seen Kai so upset.
"I'm sure Petra was careful," Hendry's calm voice tried to be the voice of reason.
"It's lucky I was there. If I wasn't who knows what would have happened."
"Stop," Petra shouted, "I can look out for myself. I know who he is, and I've prepared for if anything happened. I'm not an idiot."
Petra turned to walk away. Fed up with being treated like she didn't know what she was doing and that she had to be saved. She just wanted to get out of there. Kai grabbed her by her wrist and turned her around. Petra glared at him and pulled her arm from his hold.
"Look I know you aren't an idiot. It's just..." Kai sighed looking away from Petra as she raised her eyebrows at him, softening her stare. "He's not a nice person and I don't want you to be whisked up into the Elder's games." His eyes focused back onto Petra. "We're friends and I don't want you to get hurt."
"Look, I know and I'm being careful. He can teach me things you can't. And some of the things he's teaching me might help us. Look at what I've learnt today." Petra showed her newly found skills of controlling leaves, beaming up at Kai. "And he said I was an Astral"
"An Astral? Really?" Kai pursed his lips and eyes narrowed, a plan forming in his mind.
"Maybe we could come to some sort of agreement. I mean we can't teach her how to use her Astral powers," said Ruby.
"I suppose so, but I still wish it was someone else teaching you. Maybe I should go with you? That way if he tried something, I could stop him." Kai pulled out his sword and stood in his ready stance.
