The sun shone brightly through the stained glass window, and as beautiful as the window view was, it was annoying in the morning. The window made sure I woke up whenever the sun went up. On one hand it was a built-in alarm clock, on the other it prevented me from sleeping in.

"Ugh." I groaned. "Since I don't have school, I want to sleep in, but that darned sun won't let me."

I forced myself to leave the warm comfort of bed, bathe and dress. I could either wear medieval clothes or modern clothes. I chose modern. While medieval stuff was cool and all, I was happy with my skinny jeans and t-shirts.

I picked out a pair of blue skinny jeans and a plain orange t-shirt. I opened the door and was greeted by a surprised maid.
"Young master, you've dressed already?" The maid asked, as if I couldn't get ready on my own. Also, what was with the Young Master crap? I was just an average person until a day ago!

"Um, yeah I have. I was just about to go find Casimir. Do you know where he is?"

"The Crown Prince? He is currently getting ready himself."

"I guess I'll have to wait until he's finished."

What should I do until then?
The maid continued to block my way and stare at me. What? Did I dress oddly or something? Did I still have traces of bedhead and drool? I hoped that wasn't the case, because that would be humiliating.

"Do you want me to lead you to the dining hall?" The maid said after a few moments of silence.

Dining hall? Couldn't I just eat breakfast on the fly? "Um, sure."

"Please follow me."

Without the maid I would have been thoroughly lost, because the entire castle was a maze. I was impressed that she herself never got lost, since I was sure I would be lost the moment I step foot out on my own.

"This is the dining hall. Food will be served once His Majesty and the Crown Prince arrive. Please seat yourself at the designated chair and wait patiently until they arrive."

"Okay."

The dining hall was massive, living up to its name. It wasn't a room, but instead a giant hall filled with an over-the-top table that was the length of the entire room, and the width of three-fourths of the room. They ate here, everyday? This room was more like something that would be used when hundreds of guests came over. Once again, the life of royalty and rich people astounded me.
Why would they spend their money on things like this instead of more important things like charities and food drives. Ugh, whatever. Trying to figure out the thoughts of rich peoples' spending tendencies was too much effort. I doubted that even if I spent all day, I still wouldn't have the faintest idea of why they act as they do.

I sat down in the seat closest to me and waited. I would love to say that I was the most patient human on the planet, waiting for my new family with a smile on my face. Unfortunately, reality was different. I'm normally a decently patient guy, but Rowan and Casimir took forever to get down to the dining hall. I was starving by the time they arrived.

"You're an early riser Yami. I apologize for making you wait on us." Rowan sincerely apologized.

"It's fine." I lied.

As impatient and ill mannered as I was, I wasn't one to be crass in the face of sincerity. Besides, it wasn't as if I had any right to get onto them for arriving when they did. I was the new face here, and I didn't have any right to suddenly jump in on their life and alter it to how I wanted. I would have to adjust, even if I had to suffer a slight bit.
