Hawkins High - 10:00 AM - Wednesday

Will's POV

Will woke up an hour later on the ground. His head hurt, he was covered in dried blood, and he almost passed out again when he tried to get up. He groaned as he slowly made his way up, propping himself against the wall.

The memories of what had happened came flooding back to him. The kissing. Troy. The punch. The feelings of hurt he'd felt when Mike accused Will of kissing him without permission. What did he expect? He kissed the most popular guy in school and just expected him to be calm about it?

But wait. Mike had kissed first today. Will thought that he finally had someone to love him, but of course he was wrong. How stupid of him to think he was good enough for Mike. He should have believed El when she told him that Mike was just using him.

Fresh tears fell down Will's face, mixing with the blood from his presumably broken nose. He hoisted himself up, wiping his face. He so badly desired to go home. He wanted to be hugged by his mom, to lay in his bed and fall asleep with the quiet ambiance of his mom watching tv in the living room. He wanted to tell Jonathan how sorry he was for last night.

But first, he had to get to the bathroom. He stood up, steadying himself with the back of the bench.

The bench he had been kissing Mike on.

He shook his head and let go, testing to see if he was able to walk.

After about 10 minutes, he finally made it to the bathroom, which, to his relief, was completely empty. He washed his face until he looked almost normal. His nose was still swollen and his shirt was completely ruined, but there was nothing he could do about that now, so instead he stumbled to the main office of the school to call his mom. After a concerned look from the woman at the front desk and a very brief phone call, he was in his mom's car. She had left work to come pick him up, and when she did, no questions were asked. She knew all he needed was to sleep.

3:30 PM

"Will? Sweetie, there's someone at the door for you." Joyce's voice woke Will up. He didn't even remember falling asleep. He stumbled out of bed, wearing nothing but a pair of gray sweatpants. His hair was frazzled and his nose looked even worse than before, but he didn't care anymore. He slipped on the first shirt he could find and made his way to the door.

He opened it, yawning. His mom was waiting outside of his door with a glass of water and an aspirin. He swallowed the pill as he made his way to the front door, handing the glass back to his mom.

When he opened the front door, the sound of rain filled the house. In front of Will was none other than Mike Wheeler. He stood there, drenched in rain, smiling that stupidly beautiful smile of his. Will couldn't believe his eyes. How did he have the nerve to show up after what he'd done?

"Hey, can we talk?" Mike yelled over the rain. Will scoffed.

"Fuck off, Mike. I don't want to hear it." He turned away, about to go back inside. Mike grabbed his arm, his cold fingers gripping it. A shiver ran up Will's spine as he turned around, his hazel eyes meeting Mike's dark, enchanting eyes. Will stepped out into the rain, closing the door behind him. Mike's hand remained on Will's as they looked at each other.

"Please, just listen to me, Will." Mike's voice sounded genuine and sad, like he actually regretted what he felt.

"Why should I, Mike? Last time I trusted you, I got hurt. I'm not willing to let that happen again. I'm starting to believe what El told me. That you were just using me for fucking homework answers." Will felt tears running down his face as he spoke, thankful for that rain that hid them. He yanked his arm away from Mike, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his drenched sweatpants.

"I know, and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done what I did. I'm an idiot, you and I both know."

"Then why did you do it, Mike? If you knew it was wrong, why did you do it?" Will's voice was shaky.

Mike stood there for a minute, avoiding Will's gaze.

"I don't know." Mike's voice was barely above a whisper, barely audible over the sound of the rain pattering on the roof and the ground.

"You don't know why you stood there and watched Troy beat the shit out of me? You don't know why you left me there, alone, bleeding on the ground? I really thought there was something between us. I thought you cared about me, but clearly, I was wrong." Will's entire body was shaking as he yelled at Mike.

"I didn't want him to know." Mike's voice was unsteady, and Will could tell that he was crying too. His black hair clung to his face like a wet mop, hiding his eyes from Will.

"Y'know, I really thought you were different. I really thought you weren't like those assholes. But I was wrong. You're selfish, Mike. You care so much about your social life that you were willing to hurt me like that so easily. I really hope you know what you've done. How you made me feel. Because there is no coming back from that." Will took a deep breath. His chest ached.

"I loved you, Mike."

Mike looked up at Will, brushing his hair out of his face. Will admired his face. God, he was so handsome. His eyes were filled with sorrow.

"Will, please."

Will shook his head and laughed quietly, turning around to go back inside.

"I love you too."

He stopped in his tracks. He turned around slowly, looking deep into Mike's eyes. There was no sign that Mike was joking. His expression was pleading, but not fake. Mike was serious.

"Please, Will.."

For a few seconds, everything stopped. The rain stopped, the wind stopped, the buzzing of the broken light outside the Byers' house stopped. Everything was silent as Will stared at Mike. Will took a step, closing the distance between them.

"Don't lie to me." Will whispered.

"I'm not lying." Mike took Will's hand, pulling him closer. Will looked into Mike's eyes. Should he? Was he really gonna forgive Mike that easily?

He couldn't. Not yet. Maybe someday, but not today.

So he pulled away, turning around and making his way back to the door. He froze as he put his hand on the handle.

"I don't love you anymore, Mike."
