The second time Robin ever met Nancy, Nancy was covered in blood holding a gun pointed straight at Robins head.
The second time Nancy met Robin, Robin had a gun to her forehead and fear in her eyes. Maybe it was those eyes that made her finger hesitate over the trigger.
"Don't shoot." The taller girls voice was barely above a whisper but it sounded raspy like she hadn't talked in a while. "Please don't shoot."
"What can you offer me?" Her blue eyes were ice, sending frost coursing through Robin's veins.
"A car?"
The two little words hung in the air for a while before she seemed to make up her mind.
"What's your name?"
"Robin"
With that Robin found her arm wrenched uncomfortably behind her back and a forceful hand at her back pushing her forwards.
She was all too aware of the gun digging into the side of her head as Nancy steered Robin towards the door of the abandoned gas station. Neither of them mentioned the awkward angle Robin was in as she was taller than Nancy, her back bent backwards so that Nancy could comfortably place the barrel against her skull.
"See? Beautiful four wheel drive. Good enough for you, Princess? I mean I can't drive but hey at least I won't kill myself trying now" Cockiness was a stupid trait to possess when a near stranger held your life in their hands. Sure Robin had seen Nancy in passing around school, but they'd only ever interacted once and even then it was highly unlikely the other girl knew her considering she held no recognition in her sharp eyes.
Ignoring the nickname the shorter girl responses.
"You're willing to stay with me?" There was something in her voice. Something small a slight quiver in her tough exterior that Robin couldn't quite place."Sure. I mean a partner would be good. Really good. We could look out for each other. You know how it is, apocalypse shit really takes it out of you I mean I've been on my own for like around 3 months now well after vi-" She stopped abruptly either considering how much she'd rambled or in Nancy's eye because she thought of someone she'd obviously lost.
"Okay." Her voice was softer noticing the somber look on the taller girls face, Nancy rather calm for someone who had almost shot Robin before she could even react.
"Well, Nancy, is it alright if I call you Nancy, well either way, I'm no expert, but the first step to a trusting relationship with someone is probably something like 'take the weapon away from their head'."
Nancy huffed and glared at Robin with confusion in her eyes. Had she even mentioned her name to the other girl?
With the gun safely tucked into her jeans, they started to clear the gas station of supplies. She made sure she always kept Robin in the corner of her vision. She methodically picked through every shelf, necessities were thrown into her rucksack, everything else lay abandoned. It was an easy, familiar rhythm to settle into. Batteries? In the bag. Baby wipes? Sure. Muesli bars? Why not. A ratty copy of girl talk? Fuck no. Bug spray? Hmmm. Not a necessity but it might be--
"Fuck!" Robin's yell broke through her rhythm and sent her heart racing.
She rushed over to Robin. A dismembered head at her feet where her steel cap boots nudged it. It rolled away from Robin towards Nancy where she stood facing towards the blonde.
