Michael had been unsuccessfully trying to catch Stevie's attention for some time now. He felt as if he was talking to himself, which was unusual. Most of the time, he couldn't get a word in. He hadn't brought it up, but he had a feeling that Mick's surprise visit wasn't just a quick stop for a chat and a cup of coffee. Stevie seemed somewhere else since he came over a couple of days ago. Naturally it worried him, he suspected that whatever it was, it had some connection to Lindsey.
No one was shocked when the two men met and didn't get along. Since then, they were civil at best around each other. Even though Stevie had Michael and Lindsey had a new woman in his life as well, it didn't stop them from growing a lot closer during the Fleetwood Mac's most recent reunion. That was also the reason behind Michael's dislike towards Lindsey. He had always believed that Stevie's ex wanted more than just a renewed friendship. However, he knew that if he kept bringing it up, it would only push Stevie farther away from him and into the other man's arms. Michael couldn't be sure if truly nothing happened during the time the band was on the road, after all he wasn't able to stay by Stevie's side for the whole tour, but what did give him a sense of security regarding their relationship was the fact that she stayed with him, that she chose to marry him.
"Have you heard anything I've said?" Michael asked stopping at a red light and faced Stevie.
"Oh, uh..." Stevie gave him an apologetic smile shaking her head. "Not really, I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Michael assured, resting his hand on top of hers. "Is everything alright? You seem so lost in your thoughts lately."
"Everything's fine." Stevie promised and turned to look out the window again. "I'm just... I don't know, I guess, worried."
Michael didn't expect her to elaborate, he thought that their short conversation was finished. "Worried about what?"
"Something Mick said." She sighed, unsure if she should have continued. "He asked if I've been in contact with Lindsey lately."
Michael swallowed uneasily and gripped the steering wheel a little tighter. "Well, have you?"
"No." Stevie answered honestly. "The last he and I spoke was right after his son was born. Mick kept insisting I should reach out."
"He must be busy with the baby, right? I'm sure he's got a lot on his plate." Michael spoke calmly, doing his best to control his emotions. "And if something had happened, Lindsey would have told you himself, don't you think?"
Stevie laughed harshly, she shrugged. "I can't be sure. He and I have never mastered the art of communication. Maybe I should call, ask how thing's have been. It's what friends do, right?"
"Well..." Michael paused to clear his throat. "I think, you're already stressed as it is. Solving other people's problems on top of everything else? Lindsey has a girlfriend, who I'm sure is capable of helping him through whatever it is that's going on." Stevie didn't like that. She crossed her arms over her chest and pursed her lips, looking away. Michael sense the change in her mood right away. "Maybe that didn't come out right, I'm sorry. But while you're worried about everyone else, I'm always worried about you. That's all." He added, bringing her hand up to his lips.
Stevie withdrew her hand from Michael's touch and remained with her lips sealed.
