"Stevie! The phone!"

Stevie was in her bedroom as she heard Karen's voice from somewhere far away. She woke up no more than an hour ago and she hadn't moved yet. Whoever was calling, she didn't want to talk to them. She doubted, she had a choice, when her assistant came into the room and thrust the cordless phone into her hand.

It was Maria on the other end of the line, who Stevie had hired as her wedding planner. Stevie was heavily involved, but there were some things she just didn't want to deal with. Maria was recommended to her by one of her industry friends and the woman was doing a great job. Stevie knew, she could be difficult sometimes, but Maria was always calm and respectful.

The phone call was in regards to flower arrangements. It's a big event, Maria said, we need to start discussing this. Stevie didn't know if that was true. She hadn't heard from Michael in a week, hadn't seen him in almost two. He called for a brief conversation once to check in on her and that was it. What would she even say to him if he came back? She certainly couldn't tell him that nothing happened between her and Lindsey because it certainly had, on three separate occasions so far.

Stevie pushed out those thoughts out of her mind and tried to focus on whatever Maria was telling her on the other end. They wrapped up their conversation in about ten minutes having made no decisions, but they did agree to meet next week.

"So..." Karen leaned against the doorway, arms crossed over her chest. "Is the wedding still on?"

"I have no idea." Stevie shrugged getting out of bed.

Karen took a big calming breath. "This is crazy. It's less than two months away, you know that, right? You and Michael are not even together, you keep seeing Lindsey. Why not just call it off? If not forever, for right now? Clearly, you need to figure some stuff out." She continued talking as if she were the only person in the room, while Stevie brushed her teeth in the bathroom with the door open. "You're also allowed to change your mind, Stevie. Nobody's gonna think that you failed, it just didn't work out."

"Oh yeah, everybody will think that." Stevie said after spitting out the toothpaste into the sink and rinsing her mouth.

"Well, who cares!" Karen threw her arms up in the air. "What, you'd rather spend the rest of your life with the man, who's obviously not right for you? I mean, he might be, but he's not the one that you want."

"I don't want to talk about it." Stevie went into her closet for a clean set of clothes.

"I understand, but maybe you should. I'm not used to you being so quiet and quite frankly it's freaking me out." Karen sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Maybe Lindsey should be your assistant since he seems to be the only one you'll talk to."

Stevie had to laugh, she found the idea amusing. "Even if I wanted to sort things out with Michael, I have no way of contact him. All I know, he's staying at some hotel. He's called once. I doubt, he wants to talk to me, Karen."

"Maybe he's just-" Karen stopped.

They both could hear the front door being unlocked and there was only one person besides them who owned a key.
