Shira twitched in her sleep, thrashing violently as if she was attacking something or trying to get away. The saber whimpered in distress, letting out small mews. Those little soft mews eventually turned into growls that echoed through the den. Had she been by herself, Shira wouldn't have known how badly her nightmare made her act from outside her sleep.

"Mmm...what is that sound?" Diego mumbled in his sleep as his ears twitched at the noise. He tried ignoring it but it was in vain. His eyes opened tired yet annoyed. "I mean it when I find who is making that-" he started to complained as he turned his head around to look at the source with irritation written on his face.

However, it softened when he saw Shira's thrashing in her sleep. Her growls sounded like she was in pain or distress. The brown saber stood up and slowly walked over to her as he stared with bewilderment yet concern. Never had he seen his mate do that before. ' Is that a night terror?' He thought in his head as he watched her.

He glanced at her face and saw the fear on her. Diego couldn't bear to see that. If the nightmare was that bad, then he has to wake her up from it. Especially if it got her thrashing and swatting like this.

"Shira. Shira" he whispered to her, gently nudging her back. However, just as he moved her, her blue eyes shot open and Diego's ears twitched at the sound of claws retracting. Just in the nick of time, he dodged her claws as she suddenly turned around and slashed her paw at him. Luckily, it missed its target and hit the ground instead.

"Whoa!" Diego said alarmed, his eyes on her paw and then to her. Shira was breathing heavily. Her eyes met his and then it saw the den and the entrance and she realized that she was still in their home. Her breathing started to calm down, returning to its original pace.

"What...what's going on?" She asked confused as she looked at him for an answer. "I should be asking that" he commented, still in shock of almost getting slashed. "I think you had a night terror just now Shira" he told her as he sat down.

"A night terror? How?" She asked puzzled. "You were thrashing and swatting your paws and you were making these growls too. It was like you were attacking something in your sleep" he explained to her calmly but worriedly.

Shira stared at him surprised, not expecting for her to do that in her sleep. She guess that her nightmare was that bad. "Hey. By any chance, were you having a nightmare?" He asked her reluctantly, knowing she may not admit that so easily.

The striped saber looked down, avoiding his eyes. He saw her ears lowered, indicating she was nervous to talk about it. Diego saw this coming. But he had to know the cause because if she had a night terror, then that concerned him and it could happen again.

"Shira" he said her name firmly this time like a parent catching their kid doing something wrong. His mate lied back down and turned her striped back to him, so she wouldn't have to look at him. He sighed, wondering why she had to be such a stubborn cat when came to this.

"Shira. Come on. Do you know what you looked like, thrashing and growling like something was attacking you? It was scary. I want to help you. If we know the cause, then I can help you out. Please Shira" he explained to her calmly. It was silent in the den, not one peep from her.

Diego sighed, too tired to deal with this right now. Hopefully, in the morning he would get his answer. "We'll talk in the morning" he told her, about to turn around.

"Wait"

He paused when he heard her voice disturb the silence in the den. It sounded so soft and scared. A tone he rarely heard her use. He glanced back at her as she stayed still. "I had this nightmare. About you" she said slowly and reluctantly with some fear in it. Diego's face softened, wondering what happened in that nightmare that involved him?

"I was looking all over for you. I found you. But then you said that you didn't want to be with me anymore. That you didn't want me around. You started to leave and I chased you because I wanted to know what I did wrong to make you leave. All of a sudden, you lashed at me and I had no choice but to fight back while I kept asking you and telling you that I don't want to fight you" she explained him as her voice broke halfway. The thought of her beloved leaving her and if she was the reason he left her was something that scared her and hurt her.

Her body shook in fear as she struggled to keep her tears back. Diego stared at her sympathetically. He could see she was trying to hide her fears but physically he can see that she was terrified.

Shira suddenly felt something on her neck and glancing at it, she found Diego rested his chin on her neck, lying behind her. She blushed at feeling his warm breath hit her neck, sending shivers through her fur.

He glanced at her and saw her cheek was stained from her tears. "Hey" Diego gently said and she looked at him. Her mate offered a warm smile as he licked her cheek to clean off the tear stains before placing a soft kiss on it. Shira blushed more as she looked at him puzzled.

"Shira, there's nothing you can do to make me leave you. Quite the opposite. I just want to be as close to you as possible. I already came close to never seeing you again when you saved me and my Herd from the pirates. There's no way I leave you" he explained to her. She glanced at him. Despite his words comforting her, there was one thought that disturbed her.

"And what if I did something that made you leave?" She asked him scared. He smiled at her assuringly and nuzzled her face lovingly. "If you did something to upset me, I would talk about it with you and we would fix it together. You can bug me or anger me all you want but that's not going to make me leave you. I love you my kitty" he assured her affectionately and to he relief she started purring and nuzzled back, finding his words made her feel better.

"You always have a way with words don't you?" She whispered to him and he chuckled at her, licking her cheek. She lied her head back down as the two fell asleep together.
