A large musk ox was grazing on the grass, unaware of two sabers stalking it in the long grass. Diego and Shira haunched their shoulders, ready to pounce.
"ROAR!" Diego roared and the two sabers sprung out and the musk ox quickly darted off with the sabers on hot pursuit. Shira leaped on and latched her claws on its rear. The ox started jumping to shake the saber off and with it distracted, Diego lunged for its neck and latched his jaws and claws tight on it. The ox started jumping more but unknowingly running to a downhill.
Once it got there, the ox stumbled and went tumbling down with the sabers on it, the two felines still holding on. Shira lost hold on the ox and she started rolling down on the ground hard until they got to the end. Diego was still holding tight on its throat and that finished the kill. Once the prey stopped moving, Diego let go of the prey and he groaned a bit, feeling sore from rolling down the hill with a large mammal.
"Well that was a hunt that I never want to do again" Diego commented annoyed but his ears perked at a hissing sound of pain and he looked and spotted Shira.
Shira was lying on the ground and she was standing up but her face was scrunched in pain. "Shira are you ok?" Diego asked her worried. Shira turned her head to him and smirked at him. "I think you worry too much softie" she told him but when she took a step, she gasped and hissed in pain again.
Diego approached her worried and he noticed one of her hind legs, she was lifting it up. 'That must be the problem. She must've hurt her leg during that fall downhill' Diego thought in his head as he looked at her leg. He didn't see any bruise or cuts but it must of hurt alot since she couldn't stand on it.
"You're hurt aren't you?" Diego told her serious as he walked to her side. Shira looked at him and rolled her eyes. "I'm fine. My leg's just sore" Shira said stubborn and Diego rolled his eyes. 'Typical. Never the type to admit when she's hurt' Diego said in her head.
Shira tried walking again but when she took another step, her foot hurt more and Shira actually lost balance and she growled in pain, her eyes shut tight and sat down. Diego walked around her so they were face to face. Diego saw on her face how much it hurt.
"Shira. You're hurt. It's ok" Diego told her gently and concerned. Shira opened her eyed and Diego was surprised to see her blue eyes watery in pain. 'Wow her leg must really hurt' Diego thought. He knew why Shira was trying to act strong. He would do the same. But he also know when you show you need help.
Diego stood by Shira's side "Diego what are you doing?" Shia asked surprised as Diego helped her stand up and he let her lean on him so he could help her walk and she wouldn't have to put pressure on her injured foot. "Come on let's get back to the den so you can rest" Diego told her as they started walking.
Shira blushed surprised at no matter how many times she tried to convince him, he was still determined to help her. She had to admit her foot really hurt, especially when she stepped on it. But she didn't want to look weak, especially in front of Diego.
Shira then realized something and that was their meal. She turned her head around and she saw they had left their carcass behind. With their prey left behind and unguarded, it was easy for any predator to steal it.
She looked back at Diego "Um Diego. We forgot our meal" she reminded him a little worried but Diego was more focused on helping Shira than losing their meal. "Leave it. We can get it later" he told her serious as they kept walking.
"Diego by the time we come back from the den, our meal will probably be already taken" she told him serious and Diego knew she had a point. But he also knew that to carry their meal back to the den would take a lot of work and Shira was hurt so if anyone tried to steal their meal and fight the sabers, Shira would be easier to defeat.
Diego turned his face to looked at Shira "If it gets stolen, we can always get more food. Maybe some fruits. But right now you're hurt and can't walk. Right now what matters to me is you resting and not getting any more hurt on the hunt ok" Diego explained to her and Shira stared at him for awhile.
She thought about what he said and she smiled at him "ok" she said, finally accepting his help and Diego sighed relieved that she understood as the sabers made their way back home.
