"Ladies and gentlemen, things are definitely not looking good for the Grammy award winning artist, Ed Sheeran, as he has been tied up to the support beam of the Ferris Wheel down here at the old fair. Yes, people, the same attraction that was responsible for at least two deaths the last five years the fair was opened and one of the main reasons why it closed in the first place!"
The command center was buzzing, as officers, leaders, commanders and others moved about. Phones kept ringing and ringing, while things in the field got more and more complicated.
"General Sims? Come in" Chris called
"What is it Captain?" General Sims answered after hanging up with the chief's office
"I have the suspect's attention now. I will try to lure him down, while SWAT goes for the victim."
"Move faster!" he urged
"Yes, general!"
"Deacon, stay in the control panel. I have an idea!" Chris called, "Hondo, send Luca and Tan with non lethals. You and Hanson, look for any victims and send them out. Send the others to help set up the net."
"Roger that!"
She did have an idea, but it involved several steps. First, stabilize the machine by stopping all mechanized movements, then neutralize the suspect and finally go for the victims. Simple? Sure. Easy? Nah! She wasn't one hundred percent sure it was going to work, but...she needed to have a lil faith!
"Sir, Mr. Marrero, do not move. The structure is not stable. I know you're not found of heights coz I know you chose wood working at school instead of rock climbing." Chris said over the horn, as she approached the structure.
"How the hell do you know that?" the man demanded, hanging on to dear life.
While this was going on, Luca and Tan went around the structure, setting up at the side of the platform. Tan set the weapon on a milk carton that Luca found laying around because he needed height. Luca stood next to him with his binoculars.
"We gotta wait for her call, Tan. Make sure you got the aim."
"I can't from here. Too far." he said looking through the weapon
"Damn! Ok." Luca lamented, shaking his head. He then turned to the earpiece, "Chris- I mean, Captain!-"
"From where you are, the target is too far, Luca. Move quietly, I'll distract him!"
Tan and Luca turned to each other and frowned. How the heck did she know? ,they wondered. They hadn't noticed she did in fact caught a glimpse of their position. Besides, a lot of sniper training was a plus!
A few seconds went by, until they received the signal. Luca directed Tan closer to the support beam, now just 10 ft away. The perp was still hanging on, still aiming his weapon to Street, who by now was just a few feet from Ed.
The coming of the clouds had intensified the breeze, which now was blasting harder and harder. The wind gusts made all three men moved back and forth with force, consequently making the structure cringe and groan.
CRRRRUNK
CRIIIIINK
"Captain, line up the team to take down the assailant. We cannot let the musician fall off the structure! There's no way to determine what the landing spot will be with the wind picking up!"
"General, I have SWAT ready with non lethals. They are finishing the set up as we speak!"
"Captain, we need to move fast. If rain starts to come down and we get another hinge fly off, that man is dead! This is being seeing in national television!"
