The small city of Hawkins in Indiana never really changed, years passed and the town still looked the same. Year after year, season after season, it was as if the same snow that fell the year before, fell again the next year.

Billie Mora sat on the sidewalk waiting for her best friend to pick her up for school. The cold November wind hit the girl's knees, even though her legs were covered with her black tights, she still felt the wind in her bones. Billie was like her aunt in more aspects she would like to admit, but their love for fashion was undeniably the same, both would sacrifice anything for a good outfit. That particular morning was windier than usual, the girl wore a dark green turtleneck, with a mahogany suede skirt, her black converse high tops, and a black overcoat, and sunglasses.

After what it felt like ours in the cold Indiana wind, Billie saw a familiar car maroon approaching. Once the car stopped, the passenger's door opened, and the brunette was met with the familiar face of her best friend, Steve Harrington.

"Good morning princess," Steve greeted her as she put her seatbelt on.

"Morning," was all she said as her friend started driving again.

"Here," Steve handed her a bottle of Advil, which confused the girl, " you look like shit. You only look like that when you get hammered the night before, or when you have a headache. And you only get hammered when you are with me, so..."

Billie smiled at her friend before taking the bottle from his hand, "thanks Steve."

"You really need to get those checked," the boy pointed out.

"I already have," the girl said before taking a sip of the water Steve had in his car, and swallowing the pills. Billie has had headaches and migraines ever since she was little, her aunt had taken her to multiple doctors but all of them came up with the same answer, no one knew why she had them so constantly, there wasn't a cure, and they could only help the girl manage them. Some days the headaches were so bad she could barely get it from bed, as time went by she learned how to deal with them, but she couldn't shake the feeling that the pains were getting worse as the years went by.

"You need to get them checked again," Steve said, not taking his eyes off the road.

Billie rolled her eyes and ignored her friend, "so how was your date with Nancy?"

"It was really good," Steve smiled.

"Why are you going out with her? She is a prude," the girl looked at her friend.

"I really liked her," the Harrington boy said, looking at his friend.

"In that case, I take back what I said," she smiled at her friend, "I'm glad you're happy, Steve."

Steve smiled at her as he parked the car, "we are here," he announced, faking a happy voice.

As the two got out Billie could see their group of friends approaching the car, but before they could reach them Steve turned to her, "I have something to do before class."

"Tell Nancy I said hi," she said, taking her sunglasses off, as her friend practically ran towards the building.

"Where is Steve going?" Asked Tommy H. She was not particularly fond of Tommy, but he was Steve's friend so she got used to having him around. Carol, on the other hand she really did like, that's until the curly haired girl started dating Tommy.

"Where do you think?" Carol responded with a suggestive face and a smirk on.

"He had something to talk about with Nancy," Billie explained.

"Talk... sure," Tommy started laughing, "I don't know what he sees in her."

"She is nice. Which is way more than we can say about you," the brunette said, hearing Carol's laugh, "Hey Tommy, go, the trash can is calling you," she said before Tommy could respond, and Carol pushed him away.

"So now that he is gone," Coral said, looking at Tommy before looking back at her friend, "how was your date with Jason last night?" She smirked.

"He is boring, but it was okay until we made out and he started some crazy talk about God. Thankfully I had to go home because of my curfew," the brunette told her friend.

"You don't have a curfew," Carol pointed out.

Billie smirked at her friend, "I know. But he doesn't," she winked.

"You are horrible," Carol said, and started laughing.

...

The day had taken an eerie turn after school, the news of Will Byers' disappearance had spread like wildfire, and while some people thought it was just a stupid boy running away, most people were scared, even if they would not admit it. Things like that did not happen in Hawkins, search parties in the middle of the night, the cops driving around desperately looking for a clue, it was as if the air of the town had changed itself.

Michelle, Billie's aunt, was traveling to Milan again, the older woman loved Hawkins but she was always somewhere else. She did check on her niece daily, but Billie could still do whatever she pleased. The girl loved to go out, and she did most times, enjoying her freedom, but this time is different. Something felt different, the Byers' boy disappearance gave Billie chills, and she did not want to go out. She had denied Steve's request to hang out after his date with Nancy, and at 8pm the brunette had already started to lock every window and door in the house.

The Mora girl was downstairs, she grabbed a cup of water for her room, where she planned on locking herself into, but as she stepped on the first step a noise caught her attention outside. Billie walked towards the glass door that led outside, she knew it was probably a stupid decision, like most of the horror movie characters she criticized, but it was as if something was calling her, yet she did not dare to open the door.

Billie looked out the door, looking for something, whatever was giving her that horrible feeling, but she didn't see anything. As the brunette turned away, she heard a loud screech that made her turn around, but again she saw nothing. Looking out one last time the girl felt something drip on her lip, she raised her hand touching her lip, pulling her hand away to look she saw a red substance, blood.
