David suddenly opened his eyes and shuddered as memories of the night before rattled through his brain and body. He was infinitely thankful to Lilith and she was infinitely proud of him, and their first night together in what was months for David had probably destroyed and remade their reality countless times over as Goddess and High King collided in their fiery passion and lust.

He shifted on his side to gaze at his Goddess of a wife, High Queen Lilith. To him, she was the Radiant.

Lilith fought back a smirk as her telepathic flashbacks she pushed into David had exactly the desired effect, and kept her eyes closed and blush hidden as she telepathically showered him with kisses.

He was her husband, High King David, the Incredible, the Dragon-Slayer, King of the Stars.

To her, he was-

Lilith paused and lowered herself back slightly so that, had she yet opened her eyes, she'd have seen the canopy above. She was about to say everything, and she wanted to, but- why couldn't she? She was a Goddess, she could control every facet of herself, why—

"Not even a full season!"

The fiery Goddess finally opened her eyes in defiance.

No.

She finally had David, she finally had David, she couldn't afford to have this... this infuriating, hindering- mortal's guilt over Peter.

But mortal she was still. She was ascended, but still somewhat human.

Snapping her fingers to rid herself of her guilt over Peter would mean ridding herself of her humanity.
She'd never even wanted to be a Goddess in the first place! Yet here she was, almost wishing away the part of herself she saw most value in.

Instead of snapping her fingers, she interlinked them over her abdomen and the firmness she felt reminded her of exactly why she was now Goddess.

She wanted to think of their future with Autumn, then, but instead-

What would Peter say if he saw me now?

More than human, in their bed with a new High King and bearing another heir mere months after his... departure.

Departure's one word for it... Will he ever come back?

Still, she hoped so. Still, she loved him. Still, she was so very, very confused.

She almost opened her mouth to say something aloud- she'd been silent for too long- but there was a lump in her throat and another encompassing thought-

Is this wrong?

"You left and found here and... this has to be right."
"It is right."

She'd said it with so much conviction on her and David's first morning together because she'd believed it. Everything had felt so right, so impeccably timed- Destiny or Fate or- whatever orchestrated this- had finally allowed them to be together.

But still, she would think of and remember Peter so often, and still miss him, and still love him.

She couldn't simply stop loving her first husband who'd disappeared so suddenly, but she could never have turned David away-
Not with how fleeting their chances were- and have continued to Rule alone as she was. She could never have deprived Autumn an actual chance at life-

But if she hadn't died on Earth, Autumn would never have had to be taken in the first place. Taken and saved, thankfully, yes, but-

She was her mother and she'd failed to protect her, even in a world outside of giants and Loyals and such dark Magick.
