Chapter 5

We were walking for hours after swimming for shore last night we couldn't stay still so we started walking and Eddie was quiet, unusually quiet as he walked next to me "you okay?" I ask him suddenly "Yeah, I'm fine." He said and I rolled my eyes "sure and I'm a fire breathing dragon." I said and he stopped "no I'm not okay. I'm pretty far from it actually." He said and I hugged him "it will hopefully all be over soon Ed." I said and he nod his head "I hope so. I don't know if I can take seeing that shit again." He said and started walking again. Sometime later we were at a construction site where we hid in the woods waiting. A few moments later a guy came by and put his equipment on a pile of wood. Eddie grabbed his walkie talkie and we made a run for it back into the woods. When we were at a weird shaped rock, he tried to get a hold of Dustin "Dustin, can you hear me?" He said as I stood watch "Dustin? Wheeler?" He tried but then we heard a voice "Eddie, holy shit! Are you okay?" Dustin asked and Eddie shook his head "no man, pretty god damn far from it." He said and I stood next to him "where are you?" Dustin asked "skull rock. Do you know it?" Eddie asked and I stood away from the rock to see it actually looked like a skull "who would have guessed." I said going back to Eddie "hang tight we're coming, we're coming" Dustin said and Eddie nod his head shutting his eyes before he shut the walkie talkie off "You wanna talk about it?" I ask him and he shakes his head "I want to forget all of this is happening." He said and I nod my head "I know how you feel." I said and he looked at me with terror in his eyes. "How did you get past all the horrible things you saw while in that place?" He asked me and I sighed "truthfully, I never did. It still scares the shit out of me because every time I see it, I think maybe I'm next." I said and he put his arm around my shoulder "I won't let that happen, okay?" He said and I smiled at him "I like your bravery." I said and he laughed as we heard a stick snap "tree" I said and he started climbing. I turned invisible and got my gun out and prayed it still worked as the noise got louder. When Dustin and Steve came into view arguing about the rock, I turned visible "holy shit we thought you were a goner." Robin said and hugged me "to be honest, I thought we were too." I said as Steve and Dustin stopped arguing for a second "Even when it's right there, you just can't admit you're wrong about something you little butthead." Steve said looking at the rock when Eddie jumped down from the tree "I concur. You Dustin Henderson are a... total butthead." He said and Dustin hugged him "Jesus, we thought you were a goner." Dustin said and I rolled my eyes and he looked at me "you too." He said hugging me and I smiled. "When we got to shore, we tried calling you guys but my walkie was busted man." Eddie said and drank water from a flask before giving it to me "no thanks." I said and he threw it on the ground "drenched so we uh. We did this thing that I do now apparently. We ran." He said and I rolled my eyes "would you rather have Vecna or the police find you?" I ask crossing my arms and he shook his head "do you know what time it was? The attack?" Nancy asked "yeah, no. I... I know exactly what time it was cause my walkie wasn't the only thing that got soaked" he said throwing his watch at her "9:27" Nancy said "same time our flash lights went kablooey" Robin said "which means what exactly?" Steve asked in confusion "that, that surge of energy was Vecna attacking Patrick." Nancy said and I nod my head in understanding "well we're one step closer, we know how Vecna attacks." Robin said "and where he attacks from." Lucas said. "So now we just have to sneak into his lair in the upside down and drive a stake through his heart." Max said "If he even has a heart." Robin said and I rolled my eyes "trust me he has one of those, it's just tiny and shriveled and quite possibly dead." I said "a stake? Is he like a vamp? Is he a vampire?" Steve asked and I shake my head "it was a metaphor." Max said and Eddie spoke up "a bullet should work on him, right?" Eddie asked "If you can get him to stand still long enough, sure." I said "I say we chop his head off." Lucas said and I rolled my eyes "Yeah I would say all of the above but we can't do any of that until we find a way into the Upside Down" Nancy said and they all looked at me "nope. No way." I said crossing my arms. "Hey uh Henderson is not cursed, is he?" Eddie asked and we all looked at Dustin "Cursed, oh no he's fine. Mental absolutely." Steve said and then Dustin stood still "BOOM!" He said facing the group "badda...badda boom." He said and we all looked at him weirdly "I was right. Skull Rock was north." He said and Steve rolled his eyes "seriously? You're serious?" He asked and Dustin nod his head "This is Skull Rock, okay? You're totally absolutely 100% wrong right now" Steve asked and Dustin agreed "yes and no" he said and I rolled my eyes "Oh my god" Steve said pacing "this compass worked correctly when we left the Wheelers. It was correct when we got in the car on Curly. But it started to slip the further east we went. Now it's way off. When I was leading us here, I wasn't wrong. The compass was." Dustin said and I was still confused "so you're using faulty equipment. You're still wrong" Steve argued "except it isn't faulty. Lucas, do you remember what can affect a compass?" Dustin asked and we all looked at Lucas "an electro-magnetic field." Lucas said and Dustin smiled "yup" He said "I'm sorry I must have skipped that class." Robin said and I nod my head "yeah me too." I said "In the presence of a stronger electro-magnetic field, the needle will deflect towards that power. So, either there is some super big magnet around here or..." Dustin said looking at Lucas "there's a gate." Lucas said "we're nowhere near the lab." Nancy said "but what if somehow there's another gate? A gate that we don't know about. It'd have to be smaller, way less powerful." Dustin said "snack-size gate." Robin said and it clicked "How? Why?" Steve asked "no idea. All I know is that something is causing this disturbance, and the last time we've seen anything like it, it was a gate. And I hope it is because then we'd have a way to Vecna. And a shot at freeing Max from this curse." Dustin said "wait he picked you?" I ask and she nod her head slowly as I gave a sigh "perfect. Just perfect." I said and Dustin started walking "where are you going? Hey, hey, hey. Eddie and Wonder woman here are still wanted. We can't just go for a hike in the woods." Steve said "This little steel capsule might be the key to saving both Max and Eddie along with Alice. What say you Eddie the Banished?" He asks and I look at Eddie weirdly "I say you're asking me to follow you into Mordor which if I'm totally straight with you, I think is a really bad idea. But the shire... The shire is burning." He said standing up "so Mordor it is." He said and they all looked at me "what say you Wonder Woman?" Dustin asked me and I roll my eyes "are you kidding? Where Eddie goes, I go. So, to Mordor. Whatever the hell that means." I said and Eddie grabbed my hand "what is Mordor?" I whispered at Eddie who only laughed "I'll show you when we live through this." He whispered back and so it went on for a few hours and we were hiking through the woods following Dustin and it was getting darker and darker as time went on until we stopped at the lake. "Whenever the Demogorgon attacked it always left an opening. Maybe Vecna is the same way." Nancy said and I spoke up "I know for a fact he is. I speak from experience." I said and looked in the lake "Yeah only one way to find out." Steve said and Eddie showed him where we stashed the boat. They put it back into the water and everyone piled in. When I was about to go Nancy stopped me "Hold on this boat only holds 4." She said and I glared at her "wherever Eddie goes, I go." I said and tried to get on the boat again "He'll be fine. We'll be there. Just stay here and watch the kids." She said and I looked at her questioningly "I'm sorry but who put the librarian in charge?" I ask and Robin spoke up "I did." She said and I looked at Eddie "I'll be fine." He said and I gave a groan "just don't do anything stupid." I said walking away and going back to Ricks place. I sat on the beach and watched the four of them as Steve took his shirt off "When did Steve get so hairy?" Lucas asked "right? I keep telling him to tame that jungle but he claims the ladies dig it" Dustin said sitting next to me with a pair of binoculars "I'm not in the mood for conversation." I said and continued to glare daggers at the boat "you really like Eddie, don't you?" He asked suddenly "what? No don't be ridiculous. I owe him my life." I said and he smiled at me "yeah you got it bad for him." He said and I rolled my eyes but gave a smile "so what if I do?" I ask and he gasps "so you admit it?" He asks and I roll my eyes and continue to watch the boat not seeing Steve anymore but I could still see Eddie, the librarian and Robin. "Hey Dustin, say I actually in some crazy universe liked Eddie. What should I do about it?" I ask him and he laughs "you know ask him out to a movie or something." He said and I rolled my eyes "forget I asked then you little shit." I said and he continued to laugh. They left shortly after that back to Mike's place while I stayed and watched the boat. When I heard yelling, I looked up and saw Nancy dive in and Robin followed shortly after that "GOD DAMMIT! LYING! SON OF A BITCH!" I heard Eddie yell before he dived in after them and I face palmed 'so much for not doing anything stupid' I thought as I took a deep breath and opened a portal into the upside down "I'm coming for you, brother" I said and stepped through
