When we got to the dog park, the boys and Bree were already dressed in their football uniforms. It was quite dark and very cold, so I unwrapped my jacket from my waist and slid it on. As I promised, I was standing at the side, out of the way. The two teams were facing each other and everyone around was cheering. Leo stood in front of one of the players on Perry's team, let me just say it looked like he was the height of a chihuahua compared to him. It was kind of funny.

I wasn't too far away, so I managed to hear Leo when he said, 'This doesn't seem fair.'

Perry then said, 'Seems fair to me. Let's get it on!' She yelled. She then blew the whistle and the game started.

'Let's huddle.' Leo said.

'Huh?' Adam asked.

'Pardon me?' Bree questioned.

'I huddled before I got here.' Spike said. Oh no. None of them know how to play the game. Leo does, but only because he watches the games with me. Even that's not good enough because the boy is a walking twig. This game is not gonna go well at all.

'Oh, man, you guys don't know how to play football. Kathy, come and help me explain!' He called over.

I was just about to walk over, but Spike yelled, 'No! She stays there!' His voice seemed to get deeper when he said that. Why is he so protective over me? Why am I kind of enjoying it?

'Ok, we need to stop that team from getting into our end zone and scoring a-' I heard Trent yell "hike", cutting Leo off. Leo got tackled to the ground. He then finished the sentence. 'Touchdown.'

There were two kids holding up signs. They had the scores on them. The girl was holding the scores for the Dingo team and the boy was holding up the score for the Alpha Dogs' team. Trent's team had 7 points and Spike's had 0.

The boys and Bree were huddled near their end zone. I walked along the edge and listened to what they were saying. 'Alright, Adam. You squat down right here, and when I say "hike", you're gonna pass the ball between your legs to my hands which will be right here.' Leo explained to Adam, showing him what he meant.

'Whoa! Hey, it's football. It's not handsball.'

'Adam, that's how you play the game!' I yelled over.

'Ready? Break!' The other team yelled.

'Hey, Nuggethead. Quit sucking air and hike him the ball like this.' He threw the ball through his legs and to Leo. He caught the ball, but the entire Dingo team rushed forward. Two of the players picked Leo up and carried him to the touchdown line.

'Safety! Two points!' Trent yelled. The girl changed her sign so there was a 9 on it.

'Losing makes me wanna rip out my own intestines and wear 'em as a sweatband.' Spike said. It was later on in the game and the night. It was getting ridiculously cold now. I could see my own breath. I was shivering like crazy.

'Ok. The only way we're gonna win is if we use your superspeed, your super strength and your super-nutty split personality.' Leo said, pointing around.

'I'll do whatever it takes. I already smell like a sweaty ape. I don't want this to be for nothing.' Bree said.

'Here's what we're gonna do.' Leo said. The four of them huddled closer and talked about a plan. Sadly, I couldn't hear what they were saying. After a couple of seconds, the four of them yelled "break" and they pulled apart.

Bree came over to me and started to cheer. 'Yeah! Go, team! Whoo! I'm a football player and a cheerleader. I'm that good.' The whistle blew and they all got into position.
