chapt 2: date ideas

It had been a few hours since they had left the cave under the lake. Knuckles had taken him to a nice flowery area for him to relax at while the guardian took care of his clothes. He hoped that Knuckles also had a plan for food because he hadn't eaten before they left the pub.

Shadow allowed himself to drown in his own mind once again. He was happy the echidna agreed to go out with him. And decided to dedicate his time to thinking about what kind of dates they could go on.
Immediately he threw away any movie dates.

Rouge had tried to get the guardian to go to the movies with her before and he said that he had no interest in the 'magic picture box' at all.

So what kind of date would he like?

Well Knuckles likes the outdoors right? Oh! A picnic! Yes that would work, Shadow was sure of it! They could down to the surface instead of Angel Island so that Shadow could show Knuckles some of the cool things on earth. He couldn't let Knuckles be the only one showing off cool shit are you kidding?!

Rouge had a picnic bag in the mansion she made them all live in. And although Knuckles has his own room he only stays over for small bits at a time, he wouldn't leave the Master Emerald for more than a few days. He found this upsetting as it meant he couldn't spend every living hour with the echidna, but he supposed it was an important task. Plus he knew how much Knuckles loved his Island, he couldn't just take it away from him even if he wanted to!

But back to the matter at hand.

What kind of foods would they eat at a picnic? He knew the guardian loved grapes, so that was something he could base it off of. But what other kinds of food could they eat? He could get Knuckles to try some foods he might not have up here on Angel Island. Like sweets and fizzy drinks. He could guarantee that there weren't any Irn Brus or Ice-cream here.

Maybe they could go on a Ferris wheel after and take in the views together? Eat candyfloss and pick fruit and go to a nice restaurant? Who knows? He felt he was getting ahead of himself.

A Flicky waddled past, the wind blew the trees as the first drops of rain hit his nose.

Uh oh.

A twig snapped behind him.
"Shadow?"
Oh thank chaos.
"Hi Knuckles I'm here." The red guardian padded towards him and handed a big leaf towards him.
"Here, it's not the most effective but this will vaguely protect you from the rain."
He took the offering gently but quickly, holding it above his head.

Knuckles beckoned him to follow, to which he stood up and went with him.
"I have a home I dug out by the Master Emerald, I put your clothes there already and I have some fruit too. Is that alright?" Knuckles asked him.
"If course that sounds lovely Knux," Shadow replied, "Did you hand dig yourself a home? That's quite impressive." He added.

"I did, thank you." Knuckles let his cheeks turn a light pink in appreciation (and a bit of embarrassment).

They walked in silence for awhile. Each basking in the others presence. Their hands brushed for a moment before Shadow took the echidna's hand in his.

After a few more minutes they found the Master Emerald and Knuckles continued to the left for a minute before stopping at a small trapdoor in the side of a mound. He opened it and climbed in, dragging Shadow with him as their hands were still intertwined. Though they managed and were soon sat in the guardian's little cave.

There was a hole in one of the sides that allowed them to see the Master Emerald's shrine. A surprisingly well made bed in a corner too, and a pretty sturdy looking table just near the door that they had just scrambled through. The table had his clothes neatly folded on top, and a bowl of fruit next to them.
