JONAH'S POV**
Me and my big mouth.
Jasmine and Star sit across from me in one of the black vans driving us to Miranda's birthday party and the whole way there my little sister finds the time to mention Pryor's skin color, the shape of her eyes, even a sweet scent she can attract sometimes without even knowing it.
You can imagine Kevin sitting in the front seat, absorbing all of Star's descriptions. He thinks I don't know he's smiling or thinking about doing wild things to her, but they all know she's meant to be mine and mine alone. Still.....it's kind of hard claiming someone as your property if they're trying to avoid you. I didn't decide to go to this party just to hang out, but to fix things with the girl I love. And yes, it seems weird that I'm in love with a girl I've only known for a week now but there's just something enchanting about Pryor.
The black eyes, lavender purple hair, and the clothes she dresses up in. Call me crazy but what guy wouldn't spot a chick like that. But to me though, it means so much more to me than she can even imagine. Now look, I don't believe in Voodoo or things like destiny although maybe just maybe for this one scenario, it isn't a coincidence we met and personally I'm starting to think Pryor agrees with me but won't admit it to herself. No big deal, Wade told me to be straightforward. That losing this girl is not an option. He told me the last time we had a meeting that Pryor's arrival in town as well as Jeremy's can't be by chance. It's like their arriving in Charlotte was planned all along. I'd have asked him what the hell he means by that, but being the mysterious guru that the man is, he refuses to spill his guts.
"Did I mention they're fighting right now," I pull myself away from my thoughts too long. Jasmine's cheerful face falls at the confession. We're not fighting......more like keeping away from each other until I can find the heart to explain things properly to her. Which is why I have things set up the way they will be at the party when I find Pryor.
"Really? That sucks," Jasmine sticks a hand underneath her chin and goes into deep thinking when the van take as sharp turn to the left. Houses big and old, are common for most folks living in Charlotte. Everyone knows us, we're able to afford the houses that we do, even Miranda's family can. My little cousin, I imagine will probably hate me for the rest of her life. I asked my uncle to prepare a room downstairs in the basement and two glasses of strong whiskey-powerful even to knock Pryor out for a little while. That's all the time I need to explain our situation in Charlotte and fix our relationship. I want her. She wants me. I know she's probably debating about coming to this party right now but I know her like the back of my head. We'll meet again and this time no mistakes.
We're almost at Miranda's house, just another two miles to go before my phone goes off in my back pocket. Star stops to look me in the eye. Jasmine's face grows serious like she's expecting it to be another reported murder committed by Jeremy's gang. I fish the damn thing out and read the caller ID.
Joe. I lowered my brows and wave them a pleasant smile. Star straightens back in the seat cushion and continues to babble on about Pryor and Jeanna.
"Hello?"
"Jonah, man, it's good to hear your voice dude."
"Yeah me too. You alright? Wade told me Jeanna did you in real good, man. Why didn't you tell me she was targeting Pryor at lunch that day?"
"For one, she said you were pale as hell, man. I couldn't bring myself to tell you your girl was in danger like that. Besides.....I like her. She don't deserved what happens to her just because of that-fight. Look bottom line, Devan and Terra stepped in, and boy did Lila knock her off her sorry ass."
