I glanced over at Poppy to see if she was as confused as me. She appeared to have no reaction to the fact that we weren't at the right camp.
"I thought we were supposed to be at Camp Fort Jackson," I said. She gave me a weird look.
"At where?"
"Camp Fort Jackson."
"Sweetie, there is no such thing."
"Yes, there is. I signed up for it. Not this."
"Alright everyone. Let's head off the bus and grab your stuff," Grace announced.
"Well, I guess ask Grace or Jeremy to call your parents or ask them." She shrugged. I looked at my phone. It was at twenty five percent which I had no idea how it had died so fast. I charged it this morning and it was just at ninety not too long ago. I guess maybe it was searching for a signal that was nonexistent out here and it drained its battery. But it shouldn't have drained it that fast.
I stepped off the bus and looked for one of the counselors. Jeremy was standing by the luggage. I walked over to him. He smiled as he saw me walking over.
"Yes?" he asked.
"Um, I'm not supposed to be here. I'm supposed to be at Camp Fort Jackson," I said. He gave me a confused look.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I didn't sign up to be here. I signed up to be somewhere else."
"Camp Fort Jackson?" I nodded. "I've never heard of that camp." How has no one heard of that camp? It seemed so well known.
"Can I call my parents and ask or something?" Jeremy looked around.
"If you can get any signal you can."
"Is there not a phone anywhere here?" Jeremy shook his head.
"No, not that I know of. And the one in the dining hall is broken." Great. Not only am I at the wrong camp, but I'm also stuck at a camp that has no access to the outside world. What if there is an emergency? What are we supposed to do? I sighed, feeling tears threatening to come out. I just wanted to be home. I haven't even been with this group for an hour and I was already dreaming of being home again with my parents, Levi and Chelsea. Hell, I would even walk home if I had too. I was that desperate to be home.
"All I can tell you to do right now is take your stuff to the girls cabin and try to find any signal you can. Though I don't really know where you will find any. But you can try." I nodded. That was all I could do at the moment. I grabbed my bag and rolled it behind me. I headed over to the cabin Poppy was standing on the porch at. She looked over at me.
"Figure anything out?"
"No. There is no signal here and the one phone here is broken. So it looks like I'm going to be stuck here."
"Aw, I'm sorry. But it's not that bad. This is my third year here. I like it because there are not that many people that come here. Or let alone know about it." I nodded, heading into the cabin. I still preferred the thought of being home rather than being here.
I looked around to see three bunk beds. Perfect for the six of us. "Oo, we get to share a bed. I call the top bunk." Poppy ran past me to the last bunk bed. She climbed the ladder to the top. I put my stuff on the bottom bed. I'm glad I packed sheets since there were none. I opened my suitcase, pulling out the sheets I had laid neatly on top. I glanced around the room. Rosie was adding the top sheet to her bed as the three other girls laughed around her.
"I know right. Noah is like the cutest," one of the girls said.
"Did you see the way he was looking at you when you guys were talking?" The black haired girl smiled.
