I climbed up the stairs leading into the bus after saying goodbye to my parents and siblings. I had planned on sitting in the back, but everyone appeared to be sitting there already. Maybe I can make a new friend? All I have to do is go up to someone, ask them if I can sit with them, and then talk to them. But what if they don't want to talk to me? I decided to sit down in one of the front seats and looked out of the window. Eventually, everyone was on the bus and we started to leave. I looked to see my family waving me goodbye. I waved back, blowing them a kiss.
"Alright kiddos. Let's make sure everyone is here," Jeremy said. "I'm going to call out the boys and Grace will call out the girls. Just raise your hand or say here or something when we call you." He paused looking at the papers he had in his hand. "Blake?"
"Here," a more manly voice said. It kind of shocked me.
"Leo?" There was silence. Jeremy looked up and towards the back. Leo was raising his hand, staying quiet. I also noticed he kept to himself even though he was sitting with the other guys.
"Noah?"
"Present." The boys chuckled a little. I looked back only to make eye contact with one of the boys. I quickly looked away.
"Bruce?" Jeremy gave the paper a weird look.
"It's Bryce."
"Oh, sorry. Bryce. Roland?"
"Howdy," a country sounding guy said.
"And Matthew?"
"Here."
"Alright then. All the boys are here. Grace, your turn." Grace stood up, holding papers in her hand.
"Alright, do we have Avery and Grace Adams?" She looked up.
Two girls who you could tell were sisters raised their hands. They both had blonde hair. However, one of them had curlier hair than the other.
"Are you guys twins?" Grace asked.
"Yes," both the girls said in unison. They then giggled together. Grace smiled, looking down at her paper.
"Poppy?"
"Here," a chipper voice said.
"Rosie?"
"Here."
"Kendrick?"
"You can call me Kay." Grace made note of that on her paper.
"And Amelia?"
"Here," I said. Grace looked at me and smiled.
"Amazing. Everyone is here." Grace smiled, sitting back down. I sighed, going back to looking out of the window.
I turned around as I felt a hand fall on my shoulder. It was the purple haired girl.
"This is your first year, right?" she asked.
"Yeah," I said, kind of shocked that someone came up to me.
"You should come sit with us. Come on." She grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the back of the bus. She sat down in a seat, pulling me down with her. I was on the aisle side of the seat. Across from me was the girl with red hair. She was leaning against the window with her feet on the seat. She looked up over her knee.
"Poppy, did you really drag the poor girl back here?" she asked. Purple hair girl, whose name I now knew as Poppy, nodded her head.
"Of course. She looked lonely."
"Maybe she wanted to be alone. Ever thought of that?"
"Did you want to be alone?" Poppy asked. I shook my head.
