Chapter 29: The Dare

"I'm bored," Deidara complained. He was currently stretched out on the couch with his head near my spot on the right, where I was reading my book. Kiku watched us from the top of the couch. "Give me something to do."

I closed my book. His presence was far too distracting for me to absorb anything anyway. "We could play a game."

Deidara made a face. "Not one of those little kid games you play with Tobi. Don't you know any cool adult games from your world?"

I frowned. "No, considering I was never an adult in my world." I paused. "There is a game I know of that teens often play at parties. It's called Truth or Dare."

Deidara sat up. "That sounds promising. How does it work?"

"The person who's turn it is asked someone to choose truth or dare. If the second person chooses truth, they have to answer a question from the first person truthfully. If they choose dare, they have to follow a dare given by the other person. Then the second person gets to choose someone to ask next."

"Sounds fun. Let's get everyone else to play!" Deidara dashed off before I could question the judgment of that idea.

"This will be interesting," Kiku purred.

"More like a disaster waiting to happen," I muttered.

So, that was how the Akatsuki ended up playing Truth or Dare. It was not all of them; a few refused to join. I sat in between Deidara and Itachi while Kisame, Konan, and Hidan brought out chairs and Tobi and Kiku sat on the floor in the middle. Deidara excitedly explained the rules to everyone.

"Since you're so into it, why don't you go first, Dei?" I suggested.

"Alright!" Deidara said. He turned to me and smirked. "Katsumi, truth or dare?"

I did not even have to think about it. "Truth." Most people in my world thought that those who did not choose dare were cowards, but I believed it was often more courageous to tell the truth.

"How do we know if someone lies?" Kisame asked.

"I'll let you know," Kiku said. "I can detect lies pretty well." This seemed to satisfy everyone.

"Katsumi doesn't lie anyway," said Deidara. "Here's your question. How would you describe your feelings for Itachi?"

Hidan laughed. "Feeling insecure, Blondie?"

Deidara glared at him. "Shut it."

I looked at him with raised eyebrows. "Out of everything you could ask me, that is your question?" I would have told him the answer anytime, but perhaps the audience played a role. If he was fairly certain of my answer, he might want to make sure Itachi knew it as well.

"Just answer it!"

I shrugged. "Fine. I see Itachi as an older brother." I saw relief on Deidara's face and felt a twinge of satisfaction from the bracelet. Good, Itachi felt the same way.

"Wonderful," Konan said. "You two are bonding well."

I nodded. "Yeah, everything is going according to plan. Now it's my turn to choose someone." I looked around the room until an idea came to mind. "Hidan, truth or dare?"

"Dare," Hidan said with a broad grin.

"I dare you to hug Deidara."

Hidan recoiled in shock while Kisame snickered. "Are you serious?"

"Very."

"Hey, do I have to just let him do whatever he wants?" Deidara said indignantly.

"No, it's not your dare, Dei." I smirked. "Part of the dare is that Hidan has to deal with the consequences."
