I LOST MY WIFE
I married Kalli on September 6, 2019. That day was the happiest day that ever happened in my life. Because I fulfilled my dream of marrying the woman I love, the woman I want to be with until old age and the woman I want to be a mother to my future children.
But in an instant, everything suddenly changed.
January 11, 2020, I took her to the fair, I left her on the side so I could buy our ticket but when I went back to the place where I left her.. she was gone.
Since that day, I've lost her. She disappeared like a bubble and I don't know whether she's in good condition or not.
I lost my wife, a year ago.
While I was busy taking care of my business, suddenly my cellphone rang and I immediately answered it.
"Hello, what can I do for you?" I asked politely.
"Hello, are you Jeremy Sanchez?" he asked.
"Oum yes? What's up?" I said in astonishment.
"This is from the police department, we caught the syndicates involved in abducting women. Many victims died because they tried to flee but fortunately there were seven women who survived and your wife was one of them. She's here in the poli—"
I dropped my cellphone in shock. I quickly grabbed my jacket and car keys to go to my wife. While I was driving, my heartbeat quickened and my tears flowed. I was so eager to see my wife’s face.
When I arrived at the station, I could hardly recognize her because of what she was wearing. The formerly long hair is now only short, her skin is pale and her dress is just normal, not as beautiful as before when her dress was elegant.
"K-Kalli.." I stuttered.
When she saw me there was shock on her face and she slowly stood up from her seat.
"H-Hi.." she exclaimed awkwardly while her right hand was raised.
A smile drew on my lips when I heard her voice and I quickly hugged her tightly.
"I miss you so much, honey," I whispered and stroked her hair as my tears flowed.
February 04, 2020, on this day, I will be with my wife again.
In the two days my wife and I have been together, nothing has changed in her behavior. She was still the same as before, not too talkative.
While she sat on our bed, I approached her and touched her cheek.
"How are you feeling?" I asked in a soft tone.
"I-I'm fine," she replied.
I smiled at her answer and I was about to kiss her on the lips when she suddenly averted her face. I laughed bitterly at what she did and patted her head.
I smiled. "You still haven't changed," I uttered and kissed her cheek.
As we lasted together, her treatment of me suddenly changed. Before, she almost didn't want to talk to me, now she always talks to me. Every time I come home from work she meets me at the door and she helps me take off my suit. She also cooks me breakfast, before I go to work she also prepares me lunch and when I come home in the evening she prepares food for me.
She takes care of me and I like it. I was happy with her every time we walked and my whole life, only now have I seen her laugh. She has also become tender to me which is why I love her even more.
I woke up when I heard whispers as if it was anger. And when I got up, I saw Kalli talking on the telephone while she sat on the sofa.
When she saw me, she hung up telephone and smiled at me."You're awake," she said enthusiastically.
But I only smiled in response to her and sat down next to her and I immediately hugged her.
"Your problem is my problem too. So if you have a problem tell me, because I am your husband," I said in a serious tone.
She looked into my eyes and squeezed my cheek. "Of course, honey."
When she let go of my cheek, I looked at the ceiling.
"If we had a child, what would you like to name it?" I asked.
"I'll name it Kilmy," she replied.
And because of her answer I smiled and I closed my eyes.
A few months later our relationship went well, we were both happy with each other. While I was writing my cellphone suddenly rang. And when I looked at it, my police friend Brad called me.
"Hey, what's up?" I uttered.
"Hey, can I talk to you? Are you free?" he asked.
"Sure, just text me where we will meet."
"Okay, see you," he said and I immediately put down the cellphone.
About a few minutes immediately when I received his text and I immediately went to the place where he texted. And when I arrived, I saw him sitting in the coffe shop while drinking coffee.
"Sorry if I took too long," I said and sat down in front of him.
"It's okay, it's just so important what I found out that you also need to know," he said in a serious tone.
"Oh? What is it?" I asked in astonishment.
He laid a piece of paper in front of me and when I looked at it, I saw the woman lying down and bathed in her own blood.
"Sorry to say this but the woman with you in the house is not the real Kalli. She's Kalli's twin sister and she's Allika. Allika was abducted by the syndicates in 2014 and escaped from the hands of the syndicates in 2020. Your real wife was among the victims who died the day the syndicates were caught. Your Wife Kalli, is dead. The syndicates mistaken Kalli as Allika."
Because of what Brad said, I stood up in my seat and I returned to him the paper he had given me.
"Sorry, but i don't believe in paper," I said and left him.
While I drove, my tears flowed. Because I have known for a long time that the woman I am with is not my real wife. I found out from her dress, speech and manners. Because Kalli dresses illicitly while she's just normal.
Kalli also doesn't sleep next to me in bed, she's also not tender to me and she also doesn't take care of me like Allika took care of me. And I was even more confirmed when I asked her about "If we had a child, what would you like to name it?" Because Kalli's constant answer to me to that question was "I don't want to have child with a man I've never loved."In other words, Kalli only married me because of money not because she loves me.
When I got home Allika immediately greeted me at the door and she smiled looking at me. But instead of revealing to her what I knew, I also smiled at her and hugged her.
After I hugged her I looked at her and smiled sweetly. "Honey, I'm home," I said.
She's smiled. "Welcome home, honey."
It would be better for me to believe a lie than to return to the truth of the past that full of sorrow.
