I groaned and turned onto my side, pulling the gentle duvet closer to me. With an outward sigh I carefully blinked open my eyes and, without moving my head, I looked around, slowly remembering where I was.

Streaks of sunlight poured in from the open windows, along with clean, fresh air. I snuggled deeper in my blanket before forcing myself to slip out of the bed, and then I stumbled over to my wardrobe. All the Hobbits have such pretty clothes, mine are just boring Elvish dresses. I groaned again and pulled out a red and black dress, taking my sweet time to get changed as I wasn't quite yet fully awake.

After I finished with that, I went into the bathroom, which was part of my bedroom, and splashed some cold water on my face in order to wake myself up, which promptly worked. I then brushed out my hair and thought of what to do today.

I looked over at my desk, considering the idea of sitting down and writing to mama, but I did not feel in the mood to do that just yet, so I decided against it. Thereafter, I picked up my bag, grabbed an apple, and trotted out the door, figuring that I'd pick something up at the market.

Outside it was just as nice of a morning as the last, the sky was soft blue with fat white clouds chasing one another. I happily walked down the roads, making my way to the marketplace. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was that the area was buzzing with cheerful Hobbits.

I bit my lip and began walking around the area.

"Hello, miss?" Someone said, causing me to turn around and walk up to their stall which had various pastries on it. "You look starved there, how about an apple turnover?"

"Um, mae govannen." I gazed over the sweets, trying to decide between them.

"Are you the new owner of Lilachollow?"

My gaze then shifted to him at his remark. How the fatanyu does this guy know I live there?

He saw my confusion, "Word goes around fast here."

"Oh, um, yes. I live there now."

He squinted his eyes a bit and seemed to lean forward, causing me to become nervous and blush, "Are you an Elf?"

"Yes. A-and no. I'm part Hobbit and part Elf."

"Ah," he took a step backwards and began offering me different types of pastries again.

"Ui, ui. Just an apple turnover sounds nice, thank you." He nodded and I paid him.

As I took the food and began walking away, I looked around. A few Hobbits were watching me, making me go more red in the face. Just focus on the stalls, maybe something pretty will stand out.

I took a deep breath and kept on walking when something caught my eye. I walked up to that stall and looked at the woman standing there. "Um, mae govannen."

She made her way towards me, "What?"

"All these clothes are really pretty."

"No, the word you said."

"M-mae govannen?" I stuttered, confused. "It means hello."

She made a sound resembling 'huh' and gave me a look I didn't like. Then she questioned, "Are you the new elvish girl?"

I let out a sigh of relief, "Yes, I'm also half Hobbit."

She then kindly asked what I wanted. "Um, I just wanted some Hobbit-styled clothes. I prefer them to elvish dresses." She began showing me all the different corsets and things, my worries being pushed into the back of my mind.
