"Attorney Lee!"
I heard my secretary called while I am photocopying some files here in the Xerox machine.
"What is it Ms. Kwon?" I asked her while sipping on my coffee waiting for the papers.
"Ms. Yeon is looking for you, the new employee is here. Boss wanted you to meet the fresh grad personally in her office right now."
"Okay, then finish what I'm doing here, one copy of each papers then place it on my table." I am wondering why Ms. Yeon suddenly wants me to meet the new employee, maybe she wanted me to train that person just like what she always does when she sees potential in someone. But this type of cases happens rarely, our boss has a clear eyes for hiring employees, the main reason why our law firm is very popular.
I opened the door in of her office and there I saw what I thought was the new employee of the firm she was referring to. Man in his mid twenties, wearing a gray suit
he immediately stood up and bowed to pay respect to me and immediately smiled. I looked at him from head to toe, he looked decent and his clothes were clean. At first glance, he looks like he is smart. I hope I'm right when I ask him some questions I needed to ask him
"Ms. Yeon why did you call me?" I asked him and and sat on the chair opposite to the new boy
"Attorney Lee, meet Park Jimin an excellent student in Yonsei University Law School. He also topped the bar exam this year" Ms. Yeon introduced him to me
he lent his hand to me and introduce himself but I told him not to because I'm not a fan of physical touch
"Good Morning Attorney Lee Yun Seo, I am Attorney Park Ji Min" He said smiling and he already knows my name
"I want Attorney Park to be with you for a couple of months for him to be see the soroundings of being an attorney, he will help you on some case you've been working on, he will come on your defense in the court and then after that when he's finally ready, he will become one of our attorneys here in the firm" she said confidently sure that I'll be able to help Attorney Park over here
"I'm giving this to you cause your an elite attorney in our law firm , I know you can handle this" I mentally slapped my face, I hope she didn't that brag anymore
"So Attorney Park why do you want to be a lawyer? Don't you think attorneys are professional liars?"
"I believe not all attorneys are created equal, Attorney Lee. Your reputation is your personal responsibility"
"So are you saying that I am ready to create lies for my reputation?" I asked raising my eyebrows
"Article lll, section 14, 2nd paragraph states that ' In all criminal prosecution the accused shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty" I nodded and I was satisfied with the answers he gave to my question, he looks like he has something to fight for in this profession
"Then Attorney Park why do lawyers have to defend even the worst criminals? is it because the morality of lawyers is reversed?" I asked him hoping for a good anwer
"it's not our place to judge if a person is guilty or not guilty, only the court can do it. The lawyer's job is to guard and fight for the constitutional rights of the accused, because the accused has the right, whether innocent or not, to defend himself"
"Good answer. Get ready because in 40 minutes we will go to the court, I have a defense" I told him and left the office of Mr. Yeon to enter my office and look for other precedent cases that might help my cases
"You should be glad Attorney Park, Attorney Lee barely comments on other answers when she asked, it means you did great" I heard Ms. Yeon told him on my way outside her office
