"Jack," I said when I got to him. I smiled, and in the corner of my eye I noticed a guys jaw drop looking between Jack and me.
I'll just ignore that.
"I don't know how it happened," he told me in a whisper "but stay with them. They're popular, and you'll enjoy this school so much more."
"What does that even mean?" I asked him back just as quietly, voicing my thoughts.
"I'll explain everything properly tonight, but you can't be seen with me by them. Go away." He shooed. I looked next to him, where Rian sat wide eyed looking at Jack.
He gently pushed me away from the table, and I walked back to over where I first sat. Immediately being greeted by Oli.
"That was quick." He laughed.
"I couldn't find it." I said simply, as soon as I finished my sentence, Mariah had stood up, and grabbed my hand.
"I'll show you, I've got to freshen up anyway. Bye boys." Oli and Vic both gave her curt nods, and I smiled at each of them to say bye, and thank you I guess.
She pulled me past everyone again, and started leading me down hallways.
Eventually we got to a door with a little stick-female and went in. One other girl stood in front of the mirror fixing her hair. She glanced at Mariah before leaving.
"So what do you think?" Mariah asked me as soon as the bathroom door closed behind the girl. I had to do a double take of her when I saw her taking off her shoes.
I ignored it, and confusedly answered her "of what?"
She started cleaning her shoes with water from the taps, making me automatically look down at my own shoes. I scoffed at myself. I probably wouldn't even clean my shoes now if the were dirty.
"Our little group, of course." She giggled.
"Oh, they're all pretty nice, I guess." I told her with a smile. I don't really know them that well to give my proper opinions.
"Even Jenna?" She asked me. The blonde girl popped into my head, remembering how she smiled at me and greeted me politely. She seems nice enough, but we've barely exchanged many words. Before I could tell Mariah that, she had already started speaking again.
"Because I think she's a bitch. She's just really...bitchy. Yeah, I don't like her." She put her shoes back on, looking no different than they were before she cleaned them, and started twirling her hair around in the mirror.
"What about Alex?" She contined, looking at me with a grin "what do you think of him?"
I may have gone to a private school, but I know there is some sort of rule against saying anything about a guy to their girlfriend. So I just settled with something that was actually true, but worked well.
"We didn't really speak."
She nodded and quickly continued speaking. I zoned her out like usual, watching her twirl her hair and make messy shapes out of it in the mirror.
I noticed her pout her lips, and then poke a dimple on her chin and frown at it. She noticed me looking and smiled, quickly removing all emotion from her face.
"I saw you and Oli talk a lot. He's single you know." She told me. I was quick to shake my head.
"I don't really think I want to date anyone yet." I told her. I've been here a day, so I haven't really known anyone long enough to date them.
"Fair enough, but if you and Oli do get together, we should totally go on double dates. Lisa won't date because she's taking a new pledge or something, and Jenna's in love with Vic but-" she laughed loudly, covering her mouth and looking at me wide-eyed. "You didn't hear that from me."
I nodded and gave her a smile. I barely caught any of that anyway. She can talk so fast, and get so much into a conversation, whereas I'm used to being the quiet friend who usually has her earphones in and ignores you.
"But yeah, you should come to the beach with us tonight!" I nodded slowly, and she went off on a conversation rant again. I don't know where she stores all these words, seriously.
It was a bad thing at first, but I'm actually getting pretty used to it. Mariah ruffled her hair once more, still talking to me.
"We should go back out before lunch ends so we can say bye to everyone." She told me, walking over to the door of the toilets.
I followed her, still feeling on edge about the whole new school feeling, and being my awkward self.
As soon as she put her hand on the door handle though, another girl pushed open the door, smacking her hand away and making her stumble backwards before she caught herself.
The girl visibly froze.
I swear the next few things Mariah did caught me off guard, and had me wanting to run for the hills and back to a private school where nothing remotely interesting ever happens.
She slammed the girl into the door by her neck, making it rattle loudly and the girl cringe.
The girl started stuttering an apology and I felt my heart go out to her.
"Watch where you're fucking going, okay? Next strike and you're out." Mariah hissed at her.
I didn't want to know what it meant.
I have a very bad feeling about this school, and I have absolutely no idea what just happened, and what I'm getting myself into.
