CHAPTER TEN
PERCY

Percy rubbed his eyes. "What is it, what's wrong?" he mumbled.

He had been asleep in the Poseidon cabin, even though as a camp instructor and teacher he was free to sleep in the Big House. But this was... What was it? It was the equivalent to his childhood bedroom. He had spent years living here, although not much actually here as he was often on quests, until he defeated Gaia and moved to Camp Jupiter with Annabeth to attend college there and maybe start a family. After they'd moved back to Manhattan, it had all fallen apart.

Now wasn't the time to dwell on this, because he was standing in his boxers (decorated with that annoying yellow fish from The Little Mermaid, Flounder), trying to decide why Nico di Angelo had arrived at his cabin and woken him up in the very middle of the night.

"Percy." Nico's expression was as blank as ever, but there was a slight warmth under it. The kid had been a screw-up after his sister Bianca's death and had long blamed Percy (it was fair to say that the two men did not entirely get along at the best of times). Nico was now twenty-eight and there had been a time long ago where he and Dr Will Solace might've been more than friends. Currently, Nico was working as a lawyer... for the gods.

Nico looked as pale as he usually did, with his dark hair now clipped shorter but shaggy and an uncombed mess. After the kid had bounced back from Tartarus*, he'd gotten better and stronger despite his deeply affected mental state, but then he'd sunk back to his normal deathly ways.

Percy saw Nico's eyes scan Percy's sculpted chest and gulped. He'd always thought Nico had been crushing on Annabeth, but it soon emerged that Nico was gay. Percy did not have anything against homosexual people and despite their differences he was actually quite close to Nico, but sometimes there was a slight uncomfortableness in the air between them when in situations like this where Nico was obviously checking him out. Percy folded his arms. "Come on, what is it?"

Nico smirked, noting Percy's haste. "Uncomfortable, Percy?"

"Yes," Percy snapped, "because it's the middle of the night and you've come to wake me up with what exactly?"

Nico's smirk dropped. "We have a visitor," he said. "A human visitor."

Sighing, Percy left the door open for Nico to follow and walked over his bed to get dressed. "Did he got lost?" he asked as he pulled on a pair of jeans. A man had turned up a few months ago thinking he was delivering chicken chow mien to a Mr Alex Potter, but had arrived at the camp instead. It wasn't the first time.

"No," Nico said. His eyes were elsewhere as Percy buckled up his jeans and scrambled to find a t-shirt. "He came by asking for, erm, for Annabeth."

Percy paused, his orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt in his hand. "Annabeth bought him here?"

"I didn't say that -"

"It's the same thing," Percy venomously snarled. "He's here because of her so that makes him her mistake. Go wake her up."

"No, Percy, I think it's important that you deal with this."

"Why?"

"Because it's her fiancé. It's that pillock, Andrew."

***

Percy entered the Big House. Andrew Weekends was sitting at the ping pong table, looking nervous and uncomfortable. Good, Percy thought, but was then surprised at his own cruelty. It wasn't fair to hate the guy.
