Ace's POV:
I was worried.
We all were but I couldn't stop thinking about it, about her. Was that really her family? If so, she must've gone through a lot seeing as they were all dead.
But still, I was still worried about her. I cared a lot about Dali, more than I thought and seeing her go through so much pain almost made me want to kill the person that caused that pain.
Why was I this worried about her? Why was she always and constantly on my mind? It used to be Sage now it was this doe-eyed stranger that walked her way into my life.
She couldn't replace Sage, no one could and I strongly believed that so why was I getting attached?
Heaving a sigh, I looked up, seeing the doctor come out of the room she was in. I rose up immediately and approached him.
"How is she?" I asked him.
"Oh um..yes. Is the patient your girlfriend?" he asked. He was leaving me in suspense and I hated it.
"No, she's not. Now tell me, is she going to be fine?"
"Yes, her case isn't severe. The little hints she gets from her surroundings just triggers her memory and that's what resulted to her behaving that way but she is fine now, she just needs the treatment." he explained and I nodded.
I felt relieved hearing this and received a call from Draven in which I picked up, putting the phone right next to my ear.
"We found something." he said. "It's about Dali and you may not like it."
"Where are you?" I asked.
"At the hangout."
"I'll be there." I said and ended the call. I was eager to help Dali recover and I also wanted to know the reason why she called Sage her twin or if she was even a twin at all?
I pocketted my phone and quietly opened the door to Dali's room. Slowly, I walked in and sat on the little space on the bed. She was asleep and her eyebrows were creased. She looked terrified and she needed something to grab so I stretched out my hand, making her hold it and she held onto it like it was her life.
With my other hand, I grazed her cheek and I suddenly felt this weird urge to hold her in my arms. She had affected me so much and it hadn't even been a month I had known her.
She seemed to ease out a bit and relief washed over me. I had never thought that a day would come since Sage's death that I would be at a hospital -worrying about a girl- on her birthday. Usually, I'd just stay in my room and stare at the pictures we took together all day but there I was, with someone else.
I wouldn't refer to Dali as someone else though. Sure I wouldn't feel tingles when someone else laughed the way Dali did. I felt happy merely seeing Dali laugh or giggle and honestly, I needed to fix that. She wasn't Sage, she might've had some similarites with her but she wasn't my Sage, no one could replace her.
Right?
I blocked the thoughts and slowly slipped my hand out of her firm grip before rising up to my feet. I needed to know what Draven had found out about Dali's past so I could help her.
Old me wasn't like this. Before I met Sage, I was lost. Almost like a lost puppy trying to find it's way through the darkness and although it might sound cringe, she was really my light. I quitted everything for her, even the mafia my dad led and I found that weird. Weird in the sense that I was ready to do anything for her.
She should be off my mind now but I couldn't forget her even if I tried.
I quickly wiped the memory of her off my mind and revved the engine of my car, speeding off.
______
"What did you find?" I asked Draven and Rocco as I walked into the room. There were a lot of men dressed in black, most on the computers and others walking around.
Draven was part of a mafia. Basically, all our dads were mafia kings but I chose not to belong to my father's. In short, I hated my dad. I hated my dad because he hurt my family. I hated him because he did everything in his power so I wouldn't be happy and lastly, I hated him because he tried to kill Sage.
"Dali is related to Axel in some way." Rocco stated and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I don't get it." I moved closer to him and Draven who was on the computer. He taped a file and a video popped on the screen.
"The CCTV footage of the night Sage was killed." he said. The night Sage was killed was at a mafia ball party, I remembered that night vividly, the night I was finally going to see her real identity.
"But all the cameras were deactivated that night, right?"
"Yes. Looks like the person wasn't so smart after all."
I paid attention to the video and it was just of various probably dangerous people passing until I saw Dali and Axel. He held her hand almost forcefully as he talked to some guests. Dali's head was faced down but I knew it was her. He had probably commanded her to keep her head low as he conversed to the guests. My fists tightened seeing the way he held Dali's hand, I wanted to kill him again.
Yes, I killed Axel.
Did I feel guilty? No. In fact if anything, I felt satisfied watching him suffer before breathing his last breath the same way he had watched Sage breathe her last.
"Why and how is he related to her?!" I questioned, smacking the table angrily and it produced a loud thud.
"Why, we don't know and how, well we're trying our best. I've hacked every school's student identity in the states, searched for her name but it's like she was always hidden to the world."
Sighing, I ran a hand through my hair.
"She couldn't be a part of his mafia could she?" I asked.
"I doubt it. Besides, we killed everyone in The Red Flames remember? She must've been his girlfriend or something." Rocco said.
I hated his latter statement, it made it feel like there were tiny knives being shot into my ear.
"Find out more about those names in the cemetery, there could be a chance she's telling the truth."
A thought bothered me and it niggled on my mind for a while. What if she was an undercover spy sent by Axel to end me?
No, that would be utterly stupid... Right?
I need a break...
