Igniting the Love (A Monkie Kid Story)

Chapter 1

(THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DOING A FANFICTION SERIES TwT please forgive me if it doesn't sound like the characters.)

Long ago, before the stories.

Before the legends.

Before everything was written down.

Came the ancients.

One that no one knew from the future and the present.

Only the past knows the past.

. . .

"MK!"

A lady in green shouted as she ran towards the demon monkey.

"Mei?!"

The demon monkey caught Mei very so swiftly when she tripped on her dress.

"Oh MK! Woe is me!" Mei cried out as she buried her face onto MK's chest.

MK looked at her with amusement painted on his face. Clearly wearing a dress is all so bad. MK simply thought that Mei was overly dramatic about it. However, when Mei lifted her head to face MK, he then knew that it wasn't about the dress, it was something else.

"What happened?" MK asked her with worriedness in his voice.

"Arranged marriage that's what happened!"

Mei was so frustrated with her parents that she started tearing up. MK comforted his sad best friend.

"You knew that it was bound to happen right?" MK said chuckling at his remark. Mei playfully hit his shoulder.

"Of course I did!"

"Soo... Do you know who you're going to be married to?"

"Uh.. A demon...?" Mei nervously said, moving a little bit away from MK.

MK planted his palm on his face. Oh boy. He guessed that Mei was too shocked when she heard she was marrying someone that she didn't even bother to ask who she's marrying to.

"How's the training going with Wu?" Mei changes the subject before he can even speak of her error from before.

MK groaned when she asked. MK is the protégé of the great sage demon monkey named Sun Wu, which is also he's father...

"I'm not sure you could even call it 'training'. Dad keeps giving me chores instead of teaching me the awesome cool stuff, ya know?"

"Yeah. Sounds like trouble in paradise huh," Mei grinned at him.

"MK! There you are bud!" The demon monkey said from above. The demon monkey landed on the ground, causing the dust to fly.

"Speaking of the demon.." Mei said, shaking off the dust off her.

"Hey dad.." MK was clearly not happy seeing his father right now.

"Yo Wu!" Mei exclaimed.

The great sage squinted his eyes.

"Mei..? Have you finally decided to wear a dress now?" The great monkey, Wu said teasing poor Mei.

"Oh yeah... Also I'm getting married!" Mei mentioned sarcastically, crossing her arms together.

The demon monkey laughed at Mei's comment.

"Very funny Kid" Wu chirped, wiping off his tears from laughter.

"Uhh... It's not a joke" MK stated to the amused monkey.

The monkey's amused face was quickly replaced with a deadpanned one.

"Who's the lucky bas- guy?" Wu asked.

Mei nervously giggled. "Uh..-"

"She doesn't remember or should I say she wasn't listening. All she knows that it's a demon."

MK uttered, cutting Mei off.

Wu sighed, touching his forehead. It was obvious to the two younglings that the great demon monkey was disappointed, but not mad.

"I could guess that Mei's soon to be husband is from a high prestige demon.." Someone said.

They all turned around to see that it was another demon monkey.

Mac. A monkey with great sense of hearing. He's MK's uncle and sort of Mei's dad.

Mei then had an idea...

"Hey Mac.. Could you perhaps tell me the bits and pieces I missed out that's about the arranged marriage?" Mei asked.

"Sorry Kid, but you should've listen... Please don't give me that look.." Mac said, avoiding Mei's adorable puppy eyes trick.

"Pwretty plwease.. dwaddy Mac..."

Mac looked away, which Mei then signals for MK to do it with her too. The two of them looked at Mac with their puppy eyes.

Mac blushed slightly. "OKAY OKAY. FINE. CAN YOU STOP LOOKING AT ME WITH THOSE EYES NOW?"

Without a doubt that Mac's heart softened and melted by looking at them.

While the sage was holding himself from laughing, but failed to which he ended up bursting his laughter out loud. Mac glared at Wu in annoyance.

"The arranged marriage is formed to keep peace between two classes: the dragon clan and the demons. This is quite an important factor, which both classes benefit from. The demons can learn from dragons and/or humans' ways, while the dragon clan can study the ways and the scrolls of the demons. This also helps both classes from avoiding starting a war. And if the marriage was broken, so is the alliance. Mei, you're betrothed to Hóng Érzi, a demon with high royal status from the demon world."

"Hóng... That name sounds familiar..." Wu spoken, to which Mac nod to in agreement. The name sticks out like a sore thumb, only Wu doesn't know where he heard it from. He asked himself whether he have met a person named Hóng Érzi ...

"Royalty huh?" Mei wondered aloud, "Sounds like another snob from the line of royals..."

MK sighed at his best friend's statement. He secretly wishes her luck. She's definitely gonna need it. There's no escape from ending the arranged marriage... Especially when Mei came from a long line of dragons, and being an only child in her family – which MK can relate to. Not only that, Mei has to go through this arranged marriage as the fate of their world depends on it... That's a lot of pressure riding onto Mei! If only MK can help her other than give her comfort.

Wu can't help Mei much either. Wu would've suggested an arrangement for MK and Mei... But it was already too late to do anything when it had been announced. Then again, even it hadn't been made yet, there was nothing Wu can offer except strength and power. It wasn't like he was in friendlier terms with the other demons.

Mac too felt pity for the kiddo.

The three of them knew that Mei has to face up to her inevitable fate.

"Woe is you indeed"

At least there was a good intention behind it all...? Well, their Mei is strong... Hopefully that bravery can assist her through it..!
