wishful thinking

"Hey! Over here!" Angmar calls to Bria and Gus, startling me. I scamper over to stand near him, praying that they didn't catch me spying.

Looking up at the looming gates overhead, Bria gasps. "Okay. Angmar, you're on lookout duty-" Glancing at the cat-like witch, Bria frowns at his antics. Playing with insects when you're meant to be listening to the leader is a no-no. "Angmar!" She snaps.

"Hm?" He looks up, but only slightly. "I said you're on lookout duty. And if I catch you playing with any more bugs, I'll make you eat them! Okay?" she smiles sweetly.

I shudder. No doubt Bria will make good on her promise if she needs to.

Angmar (understandably) whimpers. "I believe in you!" Bria cheers as she spins around and walks into the huge area.

Looking around in awe, I whisper, "I can't believe we found it." My attention is caught by a bundle of glowing blue stones. Bria gasps, making a spell to grab what is presumably a Galdorstone, but cracks one of the menacing statues in the process. "Oh. Whoops," she says with a passing glance.

"Well, we did it, everyone. The power of the Galdorstones are ours!" she squeals. (Bet Gus thought that was cute. I wish he thought I was cute. WAIT, NO-) "I can't believe it. The legends were true! Woo-hoo!" As she cheers, I stare down at my hands. What's with my thoughts lately?

Desperately shaking myself out of my haze, I join Gavin and Bria in snatching the Galdorstones from the statues. Out of the corner of my eye, I see my mind's latest fixation shifting away some plants from the base of the statues.

Looking over at him, I see him muttering something to himself. After a second, he shoots up and yells, "Stop! These aren't ruins. This is an illusionist graveyard!"

Horrified, I drop the stone I'm holding. "Ew!" I exclaim. For some reason, instead of being shocked, Bria... giggles. "Aw, Gus, you're saying that as if it's a bad thing."
