"Heey.." I tentatively approach the dark-haired boy. "I didn't know she was going to do this." There is so much more I want to say, but now is not the time for any of it. Besides, I can tell it all to him when we're.. friends. If we ever will be..

"Matty!" Bria singsongs from somewhere in the distance. "We need you to hold our stuff!" My face sours at both the nickname and the order. "This is exactly how it was at Glandus! Always Bria's stooge.." I angrily cross my arms as I trail off, looking back at the saddened yet adorable boy in front of me.

Shit. (A/N: omg babys first curse)
I didn't just think that.
I just thought that.

Looking down, I hope to the titan almighty that it's too dark for Gus to see my face properly.

"Better a stooge than a clown," Gus replies, still looking down. When he looks up, I see something in his dark blue eyes that tugs on my heart. "Bria was right. Illusionists are nothing but high-def party tricks." he seems to believe that, even though he's always loved his illusion magic.

"Yeah, I used to think that too." I say, making a spell circle to make a rock saw. I continue talking as I cut through the vines trapping the illusionists in place. "But then I met some dork who used his powers to save me from a man-eating detention pit." I smile affectionately, and I see a flash of surprise in his eyes, clearly not expecting me to remember detention. "All I'm saying is, if a dumb illusion can save a jerk like me.." I look up at him, sincerity on my face. "Maybe it's not as useless as you think."

Gus stares at me for a moment, before raising his fist. "Thanks, Matty." I blush slightly at the name. "Now let's teach those jerks a lesson!"

(A/N: changed a couple things in the official episode to make it ✨ gayer ✨)
