Back in Hawkins

I let my bike fall to the ground and run up to Dustin's door and knock. His mom answers. "Oh hi, Lucas! I'll go get Dustin if he's why you're here?" "Yes, thank you, Ms. Henderson." She walks back inside and after she yells for him a loud clatter and bang is sounding like pots and pans clashing together. Dustin opens the door. "Lucas? What is it?" His stupidity concerns me sometimes. "We were supposed to go to Mike's." "Oh! Right." He smirks at me then runs back to get something. I just walk back to my bike while I wait.

Ever since Billy got killed by the mind flayer, Max has distanced herself from everyone. She broke things off with me shortly after Will and El moved away. I'm not sure whether it's because of El moving or Billy's death, he was always an asshole towards both me and her so I don't quite understand why she would care. Maybe that's why she dumped me, I never understood her well enough.

Mike has also been quite far away since they moved to California. Before they left, things were really tense between Will and Mike. Not in an angry or upsetting way. But in a weird way. Dustin is the only one who hangs out with me anymore, Mike is still in the depressive state I'm guessing.

I miss Will. He was always the nicest out of the party, he always understood everybody. I just wish Joyce stayed here, in Hawkins. Maybe if she did, Max and I would still be together, and we'd still play DnD. Like we used to before Will went missing.

"I got it!" Dustin came running, panting to his bike, and almost crashed into me. "Got what? Got what?" I say. Hanging out with Dustin and only Dustin has not been easy. He's a little eccentric, but he's the only one who hadn't ditched me. "3d glasses!" He pulls glasses that look like they are made out of straws and cardboard. "Wanna try?" His smile was so pure. "Uh, no let's just go get Mike."

"Do you think he'll come with us this time?" I could tell he was hoping he would. He hasn't told me, but I'm sure everything has messed Dustin up pretty bad too. El and Will moving, battle of Star Court, and then the Mike situation. "I doubt it. But maybe when El and Will come back for winter break Mike will loosen up." I said trying to make him feel better. "Hope so." Dustin looked funny with his "3D glasses" on. I can barely take him seriously. We start pedaling into Mike's driveway.

"I'll go knock you can stay here." Dustin nodded. I let my bike down and walk up the driveway. Whenever we try to hang out with Mike, he says he's hanging out with Nancy. Which quite obviously, is a lie. I hope it's just because of El and that we did nothing wrong.

I ring the doorbell. "Ted! Get the door!" I could hear Karen scream. There's a long wait till Ted comes. The door clicks open. "Hi." "What do you want?" In Mr. Wheeler's monotone voice. "Um, is Mike home?" He looked disappointed after I said that. "Come and see for yourself." he let the door open for me. I wiped my shoes on the doormat and stepped inside, shutting the door before I go downstairs.

"Mike? Are you down here?" I inquired trying not to miss a step on the wooden stairs. "Lucas?" He got up and walked toward me. I haven't been down here in forever. Our DnD board was still set up from our last game. I remember after the girls broke up with Mike and me, Will always asked to play but we were too caught up in getting them back to say yes. "Dustin and I were gonna ask if you wanted to ride bikes with us?" I couldn't help but notice him looking away avoiding eye contact. "Um, I'm not sure I can today." He mumbled. There was so much tension. I miss the old Mike. I just miss our party "Mike, seriously? You promise to hang out with us but never do. We miss you and it feels like you don't even care." I exclaimed sounding way meaner than I wanted it to, but oh well. "Listen Lucas I'm sorry but I'm just not in the mood okay? Have fun." He walked me up the stairs holding my wrist and I stood outside by his front door. Mike let out a sigh, "I guess I just changed okay Lucas? It's simple." "Mike-" He shut the door.
