ELLIE
I took a deep breath before stepping inside his room. Of course, they would gave his case to me after hearing his request the other day. And they didn't think of accompanying me, conveniently. Not even the intern. Yeah, usually interns were not allowed to see the VIP patients, but he was just being a VIP patient just because of his fame, not because he was some kind of special case that needed extra secrecy. I've tried to convince my hardworking intern to accompany me, but he refused my plea out flat. So here I was, standing in front of his door, trying to brace myself before seeing him again. The nurse told me that she would join me in a second, but looking at them busying themselves in the station, I bet no one would join me on this round.
I turned the knob and stepped inside, bracing myself to see his members, but there was no one. The room was surprisingly empty.
"Where's everyone?" I found myself asking before I realized that the question was a bit personal. It wasn't something that a doctor should ask their patient.
"Busy," he answered nonetheless. "Jinyoung has filming schedule, Jaebeom hyung is recording, so is Bambam. Yugyeom has something else to take care of, and Youngjae is still in the military."
I nodded and made a mental note to ask something personal anymore. At least not in public. "Okay, I see that you don't have any complaints and you can eat normally. Does the stitch still hurt?"
"No," he shook his head. "But I still get the pain medication. Should I keep taking it?"
"No," I wrote down a note to stop the medication, "if you can still bear the pain, you can skip it. No problem with the bowel movement?"
"By bowel movement you mean shit, right?" he asked straightforward and I laughed at his translation.
"Yeah," I chuckled. "Dumping the shit, as in your dictionary."
"Well," he grinned when I followed his style of talking. "No problem in that department. Everything is back to normal already."
"Okay," I wrote another note in his chart. "Good. Then you can be discharged later. Is your manager here or do you have someone else to take care of the administration?"
His face fell when he heard me, "You're kicking me out of the hospital?" he feigned mock-hurt.
I rolled my eyes at his antics, "No, I'm not kicking you out. I'm just saying you're okay to go. But you still need to be careful about the stitch. No strenuous or vigorous activities that might rip the stitches. So, no weight lifting until I say so. Understood?"
He nodded, "Do I have to go back for checkup?"
"Yeah," I nodded. "Just ask the nurse at the station to schedule you with one of the doctors. We have several doctors in the outpatient clinic so you can choose which one that suits your schedule."
"What about your schedule? Ain't you my doctor?" he tilted his head in confusion.
"No, I'm just a consulting doctor here, so I don't have any clinic schedule, so you have to choose another doctor for check up."
"This is for real? Or this is your way of avoiding me again?" he accused, eyes narrowing at me, trying to read me.
"This is for real. I really don't have any clinic schedule. I can't even talk in Korean fluently yet, so how can I talk to the patients at the outpatient clinic if I could barely understand them?" my voice raised as I felt offended by his accusation.
He still studied me for a good minute before exhaling, "Okay fine, if you say so. I'll call my manager to take care of the administration later."
"Okay. Good," I turned my heel to get out of the room but he stopped me.
"Where are you going?" he demanded and I stopped on my track.
"Out," I deadpanned. "We're done here and I need to check on my other patients."
"Can you spare me 5 minute?" he pleaded and I braced myself. Here we go again.. I nodded and he rolled his eyes. "Are you seriously going to stand there? I won't bite," he added teasingly and I dragged my feet to his bedside and he awarded me with his stupid grin when I stood at his bedside at last.
JACKSON
She might be saying that she wouldn't run, but she was on her toes since she stepped inside my room. I suspected she was avoiding me with the check up schedules but apparently she really didn't have one. I also just realized that so far we've been talking in English, as we used to do before. That was why her reason was a solid one since she couldn't find out what was wrong with her patients if she couldn't talk to them.
"Okay, my bad," I put up my hands in surrender to express my apology. "Sorry for accusing you about the clinic schedule earlier." I exhaled and started again, "Start again?" I looked up and saw her relaxed a bit. I stretched out my hand to reach a chair at my bedside and pulled it closer before tilting my head toward the chair and ordered her to sit.
She sighed, "Okay, apology accepted. What now?"
"Now, give me your phone," I demanded.
She raised her eyebrow but whipped her phone out of her pocket eventually and handed it to me. "Why do you need my phone?"
"I know you have an Instagram account, but can you use it?" I asked and as expected, she shook her head. I took another deep breath and continued with my mission. "Can you pause your next round until..," I looked the time on her phone before continuing, "Ten more minutes?"
She huffed, "Okay, fine. Ten minutes. What do you want to do anyway?"
"Teach you how to use Instagram," I replied while she thought my idea was ridiculous.
"Why should I?"
"Well," I rubbed my jaw, trying to convey my reason carefully so she wouldn't oppose my idea. "We're both busy, and it'll probably hard for us to find time for dates like normal people, but... ," I raised a finger to stop her when she tried to cut me off. "Thanks to the technology, we can see each other without seeing each other in flesh. So, instagram?" I waved her phone and after a few seconds, she finally agreed to my idea.
"Okay fine, shoot," she scooted the chair closer to my bed and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Okay, so.. Like I've said, we won't be seeing each other much since we're both busy, so let's make some rules if we want this to work," I knew she liked rules.
"Go on," she motioned me to keep on going with my speech so I did.
"One, we keep each other in the loop of each other's life, which means, you need to talk to me about your days, or text me," I raised my finger again when she was about to interrupt me again. "If your time allowed you to," I made sure to emphasize the word "if". "And if you don't have time to do number one, we go to number 2, which is what I'm about to teach you. We update each other through our social media, and in your case, instagram. You know, instagram has story feature which only lasts for 24 hour and it doesn't require much effort to do one. You snap a picture or take a short video and then uploaded it," I whipped out my own phone to show her what I was talking about. I opened up the apps and then clicked my profile icon at the upper left and then showed her how to snap a picture and uploaded it to the stories. I also taught her how to hold the button a bit longer if she wanted to take a short video. I taught her how to add some caption and stickers, GIFs, but judging by her expression, I doubted that she would ever use those features. "Now you try it," I handed back her phone which had the apps opened, only waiting for her to fill in her username and password.
She stared at her phone screen for a good minute but she hasn't typed anything yet.
I chuckled, "Do you forget your own username and password?" It was amusing to see her looking lost like this. As someone who had a brilliant brain, it was amusing to see her brain fail her this time.
"It's been ages since I open this apps. Is it even still alive?" she scratched her head, trying to remember her username and password.
"It's okay, we can always choose the forget my password feature," I grabbed her phone again. "You only have one email right?"
She scoffed, "Why would I have more than one email if it's hard to remember one password already?"
