CHAPTER 15 - THE BASTARD

JACKSON

Ellie sent me the location of her new hospital. I recognized the name as this hospital was a big one so partially I was glad that I didn't hold her back. A big hospital like this usually got more cases compared to other hospitals so she would have the opportunity to learn more if she helped the team there. It would be good for her resume as well. Even though I was no doctor, I knew that opportunity like this was rare, so I patted myself for not being selfish this time and let her do her thing. She told me to wait in the basement, but this was a big hospital so I bet nobody would pay attention to me. And I've dyed my hair back to black, or -ish. My outfit today didn't scream Jackson, or so I thought.. I hoped that nobody would recognize me or I wouldn't hear the end of Ellie's scolding.

I was just passed the lobby and was about to reach the elevator when someone grabbed my elbow.

"What are you doing here?" I saw a man asking me in a hushed tone, his head swiveled right and left to make sure no one else heard him.

"Do I know you?" I was sure that I didn't know him, but after looking at his face closely, the part that wasn't covered with the mask, I felt like I've seen him before. Suspecting that I didn't recognize him, he pulled down his face mask to reveal his face and I believed I've seen him before, but I couldn't recall when or where I saw him.

"Jasper?" he said in an annoyed tone. "Ellie's friend? The one that you drove back home in Seoul?" he added when my face didn't show any recognition after he mentioned his name.

"Ahh..," after he laid it all out, I remembered him. The bastard that gave Ellie this spot. "You're the one that offer this job to Ellie."

He nodded, "What are you doing here? Are you stalking her? Because I'm sure, I won't hesitate to call the security on you. No matter how famous you are," he threatened me.

I yanked his hand that was still grasping my elbow and scoffed, "That's not your business. Plus, seeing that you know how famous I am, I bet you knew that Beijing is my home as well."

He rolled his eyes, "I know you're not bright, but I mean what are you doing in this hospital? You're not our patient and I'm pretty sure you don't have other friends that works as a doctor." If I wasn't mistaken, the way he pointed that out was pretty condescending.

"Again," I repeated, "Not your business. As far as I know, you're not my parents nor my friends or my manager, so I have no obligation to answer you. And aren't you a doctor? Why are you so hostile toward me? Feeling threatened?" I challenged him as I started to feel suspicious about this guy. The way he talked to me and tried to pry into Ellie's personal business, was quite suspicious. Did this guy have a history with Ellie? Or did he try to get Ellie now that he met her again? Did he offer this job to Ellie with a hidden agenda? He was about to answer me when another hand grabbed my other elbow. I turned around to see Ellie on my left.

"What are you doing here?" she eyed Jasper and me back and forth, as well as scanning our surrounding. "I thought I've told you to wait in your car," she added in a whisper voice.

"You're going out with him, AGAIN? What were you thinking? I thought he was just your patient," Jasper cut me even before I got the chance to answer her. My blood started to boil at his rudeness.

"Excuse me, but this is regarding Ellie and me," I stepped between them, hiding Ellie behind me and glared back at Jasper, didn't care at all if we started to make some scenes, "So if you excuse us, we have things to do." I grabbed Ellie's hand and started to walk toward the exit, but the damn Jasper didn't let us.

"You're making a mistake," he ignored me and tried to slip between me and Ellie. "Whatever this is," he waved at me, pointing me from head to toe, "This is just a distraction. Whatever you might think you're feeling right now, it's just an infatuation."
