Chapter 4

“Do you remember our first date?” Niall asked me as we laid on our backs staring at the stars. He had his arm around me and my head was resting on his shoulder, my eyes closing as he played with my hair.

“Of course,” I responded without hesitation. “We went to dinner and a movie, then you got me ice cream even though it was freezing. We ended up at a park.” A smirk broke across my face as I looked up at him. “I beat you in a race to the swings.”

“I let you win.”

“You said that then, too.”

He chuckled. “I did, didn’t I?” He was quiet for a minute before he smiled down at me. “That was the night you told me about your mum.”

“Oh yeah. You were the first guy I let into my little safety bubble.”

He pulled me closer, resting his chin on top of my head. “Did I ever tell you how happy that made me? That I was someone you could trust enough to let into your life?”

“Never in words, but I kind of guessed when you asked me to marry you.” I smirked up at him.

He chuckled, then a sigh escaped his lips.

I sat up, propping myself on my elbows. “What’s wrong, babe?”

He looked at me, his blue eyes sad. “We need to go home. We have to leave early in the morning for our honeymoon. I really don’t want to leave here though…”

“Well,” I looked around, taking in the scenery. I really didn’t want to leave either. This was the most we had been together since our wedding and I wasn’t ready to let it go. It was so nice just to have this alone time with Niall, it was like we had never been apart. I looked back to him, shrugging my shoulders. “We could just stay here until morning.”

He chuckled then sat up, joining me in taking in the peaceful silence that surrounded us. “Sleep in the park like we did that one time in New York?”

The memory rushed into my mind and I busted out laughing. I had completely forgotten about the time he came to New York to bring me back to London and we had a picnic at like one in the morning. We had fallen asleep in the park and were awoken by a mob of screaming teenage girls ready to eat our faces. Ah, good times, good times.

“Exactly! Huh, we have a lot of picnics, don’t we?”

Ni thought it over for a moment then a smile broke across his face. “I guess we do.” He looked around again, then reached out and pulled me into his lap, his arms winding around my torso. “We really should go home and pack though…”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and met his gaze. “And yet we haven’t moved to leave.”

He tugged me closer, our noses brushed now. “I don’t want to let you go.”

“I don’t want you to either.” A faint smile crossed my lips before I leaned forward and brushed them against his. Then I quickly pulled away and pried myself out of Niall’s arms, standing up. “But you’re right, we really should go.”

He sat there, gaping at me with wide eyes. “You little tease!”

I winked at him and started to make my way back to the blanket where I had left my shoes.

It wasn’t too long before I heard his footsteps behind me and his hand slipped into mine. Together, we gathered all the empty food containers and the checkered blanket and put them into the whicker basket. The vase with the flowers in it was placed inside the blanket in order to keep it from getting broken, but knowing us it’d somehow get broken anyway.
