Before Their Story Began

Aleksandr's POV

Adriana is in her room resting. She only has cold stress and a cold. She's very fatigued so I'm letting her sleep.

"Alessio bed time." I tell him

He's sitting with my parents talking their ears off

"Can I stay up a little longer?" He sent me puppy eyes

"It's a school night Aless. I gave you a break til ten. You can't stay up any longer or else you won't wake up for school."

He frowned and told everyone goodnight.

"Can you tuck me in and read me a story." He asked my mom

"Of course baby!"

They held hands and went upstairs

"He's a good kid. He was so worried about the other one. You have to teach her family values. If I'm being honest I don't care for the girl twin. Natasha likes her for some reason."

"JJ isn't the kid you think she is." I argued

"You three shouldn't play favorites. Sergei and Dima keep defending her but I find it hard to believe. She hit her brother and didn't apologize, she curses, she's rude, and almost died because she didn't get her way. I don't like brats and that's exactly what that one is. You're raising your sister."

"Adriana is nothing like that slut. JJ is the most selfless kid I've ever met. She explained what you did today and I'm only gonna say this once. If you volunteer to take them to their activities you take all of them. You don't get to punish them without me approving."

"You didn't punish her so we did." My grandfather shrugged

"JJ and Aless's mother abused JJ their whole life. She was also a raging addict who spent all her money on drugs rather than her kids. Adriana dropped out of school and joined an assassins guild. She killed on command and moved drugs around just so she could send Alessio to school. Adriana had to give up her own childhood in order for Alessio to lead a lavished life. Alessio is so sheltered to the reality of the world because Adriana shielded him from it. Adriana punched Alessio for the first time yesterday because he still sympathizes with their mother. He accused her of trying to ruin their lives again. Adriana became angry and punched him. She's really bad at channeling emotions. I just need you to be patient with her." I blew up

"You're a fucking idiot! You should've explained their background to us. If we had that context we would've been more understanding." Viktor spat

"You guys shouldn't be assholes to an 8 year old."

Before they had the chance to respond we heard a fit of coughs. I turned to see my mom carrying JJ.

"Are you sure I'm not too heavy?" I heard JJ ask my mom

"You're as light as a feather. Aleksandr must not be feeding you."

"He does I just don't eat much." She explained weakly

"Why is she up?" I ask

"Did you send her to sleep without eating?" My mother glared

"She didn't want food."

"I'm gonna make her soup because she needs to eat."

"I told her she didn't have to but she heard my stomach growl."
