The whole kingdom was in a festive mood for the wedding. Vendors were called to the palace to help sell food to all the guests staying here and it definitly promoted buisness.
One afternoon, I was strolling along the unusually empty papace halls, when I came across the ballroom.
I wasn't supposed to look, but honestly, I couldn't resist.
I pushed the door open and gasped.
The pillars that lined the outer ring of the dance floor were covered in crystalized roses. The chandelier hanging in the middle was polished and had white petals floating around it by magic. Red and white flower petals joined each other on the dance floor where they hovered an inch above the ground and floated around laziliy.
A large banquet table sat to one side of the room, and the dais with the thrones was lined with diamonds.
I stepped in and watched the hovering petals around my feet. As I spun around, they were blown around by the breeze and they swirled around me, encasing me in a tornado of petals.
I let out a giggle as I continued to twirl my way to the dais, petals soaring into the air by my breeze.
"My lady."
I turned abruptly as I heard someone address me. Fedyor was leaning against the doorframe of the ballroom doors, staring at me, a small smirk playing on his lips.
He pushed off and came towards me, smiling and gazing around the ballroom.
"I don't think you should be in here." He said, as he approached me.
I crossed my arms and spun away from him, causing another flurry of petals.
"I'm the empress. I can do as I please."
When Fedyor didn't say anything, I turned back to him slightly. He was looking up, gazing at the chandelier a mix of emotions on his face.
"Fedyor?"
When he looked back to me, his eyes were slightly wet. I stepped back.
"Are you alright?"
He smiled at me and stepped towards me, wrapping his hand around my waist and taking my other hand gently in his.
We started to dance around the room, causing the settling flowers to reflourish. I leaned my forehead onto his shoulder and took a deep breath. He smelt of fresh air and wood, but something was troubling my old friend.
What was it?
We swayed around, silence engulfing us as we were lost in our own thoughts. Eventually, Fedyor stopped and pulled away to bow infront of me.
"Your majesty, I ask that you leave the ballroom and feign surprise when the day comes for you to actually see this room. Good day." He turned on his heel and went to stride out of the room.
"Wait!" I exclaimed, while grabbing ahold of his wrist. "You never answered my question."
Fedyor remained facing away from me, so I couldn't see his face.
"While I appreciate your majesty's concern, your worries are for nothing." He turned to face me plastering a smile on his face.
"I am fine."
He pulled his wrist away from me and I let it slide from my grip as he strode out of the door.
What is wrong with my friend?
